Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Heat is drawn from the engine to warm the passenger compartment. This trick keeps the engine cooler by a whopping click on the gauge. I don't really think it's necessary, maybe on a 90+ degree day. If you want real results, stick an ice bag on your plenum between runs, until you are ready to go to the line. It will cost you $1.49 per run though.

BlackonblackG:
The heat is put on to act as an additional "radiator."
Your heater core and ventilation fan pull more power-robbing heat out of the engine..........that's the theory. Cooler = faster.
The flip side to this is demonstrated by the folks who "hot-lapped" their cars and got identical or better times. Our cars have aluminum heads, which reject heat better than cast iron ones do. That heat loss can also be tied to a horsepower loss, so energy is lost to heat transfer instead of pushing on the piston. This is why cast iron heads can make better power, all things equal, than aluminum ones.
WAIT A MINUTE, you say......why do most high-performance cars run aluminum heads?
Weight savings is one reason, with a set running about 150# lighter on a v-8 car, less on a six.
The other main reason is that aluminum heads can run higher compression ratios without detonation (preignition), allowing for the possibility of more power over a lower-compression set of cast iron heads.
The hot-lappers were building more heat in their heads, mitigating the energy loss due to the aluminum heads.
Anyone feel free to chime in here.......

Boss you think the rear all seasons will be dragging at 30 psi?

1. The way this forum is set up, I have no idea how to attach a pic...if someone tells me how without having to host my own website to link to the URL I can easily post the time slip...
2. The heat on, whether it be 1 click or no clicks on the temp gauge...is not hurting anything...and in my book, it's called taking the excuses away...this combined wiht keeping the hood open and taking the plastic plenum cover off worked well. My intake tube was never hot and my intake plenum was always tolerable.
3. Running your rear PSI at 30 may be too low...but you can always run at 35...than decrease by 1 psi each subsequent run.
4. Having spares on the front probably is worth a 10th...but I wouldn't drive up there like that and I don't feel like bringing a jack, etc...but if you can do it, it's worth it...like you said...a lot of Mustang Owners do that vs. spending a ton on Weld Lits Rims.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
when you run your car and you try to keep it as cold as you can, doesn't that produce alot of stress on the engine. i was under the impression to not run the engine hard until it is warmed up. when i was on the track i would keep my engine on because i thought that it would be better(like on a dyno), but turbo cars should be kept cold.
Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
Not at all...unless you live at the track and your car was not warmed up. I have to drive 50 minutes to the track...your car is warmed up in 5 minutes period...so don't worry about this at all.
Regarding the Dyno...if your car is sitting in the lot waiting for 10 other cars to go and it cools all the way down to where the temp gauge is not registering then you should warm it up...otherwise...cooler air means denser air in the engine which means more air and more explosion and more HP.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
reading some of the coupe 6mt times that 14.2 is dam respectable. Average or say median times seem to be 14.5 to 14.6 for all posts if i had to do college math in my head.
I sure hope I can get a 14.5 but you know i'm shooting for 14.1 boss. I'm taking my windows out and running for 20 miles tonight to lose weight (kidding).

Six...ROTFLMAO....remember, I have 15K on there for mileage now...at 1000 miles...14.8-14.9 was my best...than at 5K...14.6-14.7....now 14.2-14.3...and the Rim/Tire Pkg had a lot to do with it I am convinced.

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
I've got 19k so i'm broken in. I have the 5 spoke susp pack wheels - not exactly 16's but not 22" spinners either. Hopefully the mods make up for the noob moves and wheel weight. I did find the car to have a significant bit more pull after 12 k or so.
Has anyone ever broken 14 with an AT of any kind - even 350z?

Re: Who has the fastest AT G35 1/4 Mi Times/MPH?
I can't get anyone to show me anything in the 14.3 range for an auto, never mind a 14.2 or below...
I started this thread hoping to kind of collect the times...but as is often the case...we all end up talking about how to do rather than what we have done.
I actually emailed the admins last night requesting a section just for 1/4 mi times for both Sedans, Coupes, mods or stockers...and 5ATs as well as 6MTS....I have yet to hear back. Maxima.org does it and it's great.

Forget it. I asked them to create Dyno forum. They decided not to. This site totally suck in terms of organizing important threads and everything (from loosing/winning other cars to 1/4 miles and from dyno to installing s/c and uncomfortable seats issue to bragging rights resides in one forum).
Good numbers on ET.
For others:
Stock 17" or better yet light weight 17" is the key towards success as well with DOT tires. Larger rims = more weight and inertia to rotate = bad ET times. I personally will get soon SSR Competition (14.5lbs) but want to hit the track and run bone stock. Once I get them with sticky tires will run again for comparison.

Gmaster, the sad part is that I emailed the admins of this site twice and the dead beats never even responded to my email. That will change though.
