I hate these automatic locking things. Drives me nuts.

Only thing I can think of, is on your way out, part of your body grazed the door panel and manually flipped the switch to lock, in which case it will stay locked keys in or not, car running or not.

I don't get it...
when I fill up, I put the car in park, turn the car off(take keys out of ignition) and put them in my pocket.
Not sure what the benefit is of leaving the keys in the car

sorry, but either you are kidding or that is ridiculous
that is not good regarding emission system/possible ck engine lights turning on and rough idle, a very rare chance of igniting fuel vapors, chance of someone jumping into your G and taking off--especially since you fill up opposite to driver door, you could accidentally get locked out of your car, you could potentially go back to your driver seat and forget about filling up and drive off with hose in your tank; it is plain irresponsible imo.

So to solve this, you must hit the UNLOCK button on the DOOR to unlock the tank.
It sounds confusing but do you get it?

It happened to me twice in the past. I have an 05' sedan, so I don't think its an issue with the 03's only. Car was unlocked when I got out, locked when I tried to get back in. First time, I had my keys with me. Second time, I got out of the car to get something from the house with the car running. Came back and it was locked. I now carry the wallet key with me all the time, but also never leave the car without my keys. I now have a compustar installed too.
It sounds like your door pin switches are going out. If a switch is defective or starting to wear out, it can't tell when the door is open or not. If you go to unlock the car, open the door and close it with a bad switch, the car will never know you just opened the door.
Replace the switch and see if that does the trick.

+1 I hope he was joking...
