My AT Sedan Mods

After doing much research, I finally decided it was time to make the plunge and started doing some performance modifications to my AT sedan. Over the past seven weeks, I have added the JWT popcharger, Z tube, Crawford plenum, Crawford cats, Stillen exhaust, Technosquare ECU, and the 350z thermostat.

As expected, the popcharger and z tube added a little power, and the nice sound it produces is an added plus.

The Crawford plenum added more top end power. It made the car feel like it kept wanting to pull past redline.

I installed the Stillen cat back exhaust and Crawford cats at the same time. When combined with the previous mods, the car has much more low end torque and midrange and high end power than before. The exhaust note became much more aggressive. My exhaust doesn't drone, and I love the sound.

The Technosquare ECU improved the overall drivability, and allowed the previous mods to work together. The car has more power across the board. With the help of DaveO, we also installed the 170F 350z thermostat.

In summary, I feel the car is much stronger. My gas mileage has improved from 15-16mpg to 19-20mpg with mostly city driving. I feel as if I have gotten my money worth out of these mods.

Re: My AT Sedan Mods

Its great to hear that your mods are working out well and you have noticed a significant power increase. I plan on doing almost the exact same setup, if i don't go FI. How different is it from completely stock to where you have the car now in terms of power and sound. Could you take people in your car and not have them annoyed with the sound after a 15 minute drive?

congrats..

Are Crawford cats smog legal? I live in the SF Bay Area and I heard that it's illegal in some places to replace your cats if they are functining. Do the Crawfords pass smog?

Sukhi... it is hard to say exactly how much more powerful the car is now compared to stock. The car pulls harder now and is more responsive. As far as sound goes, it just depends on who is in the car. It is much louder and deeper than stock.

achee...I believe the crawford cats will pass smog. I think that you can't replace your cats until you have 50,000 miles.

Re: My AT Sedan Mods

How about a sound clip? I am debating the hiflo cats because I'm afraid they will be too loud.

Re: My AT Sedan Mods

You cannot replace your cats unless they are defective, PERIOD! And then, you can only replace them with the stock cats, and not aftermarket (even if they are smog-legal)!!! This is unfortunately true of all OBDII cars.

Nice mods Anthony.

Anthony:

Were any of these mods done after the meet by Perfomance Nissan?

Re: My AT Sedan Mods

Thank you, Gurgen

Bonedaddy...the Stillen exhaust, Crawford cats, Technosquare reflash, and the 350z thermostat were done after the Performance Nissan meet.

Re: My AT Sedan Mods

In California, I believe the first smog check for cars that are purchased new is not for 5 years. You would have that long to enjoy the cats. I don't think these roadside inspections or mobile sniffers look at equipment, they just sniff the exhaust for emissions.

Anthony:

Sounds like you have been busy since that meet. I would love to see your mods and take a run. Maybe at the next meet.

Looks like you decided against going for a Z car?

Re: My AT Sedan Mods

the first smog check is 4 years from the date of purchase and then every 2 years. However if your car is ULEVcertified then it is 6 years after purchase - I heard that some of the 04 (04.5s+ ?) are ULEV.
