My loaner car is PUNCHIER than my new car!

Hello all... I just bought a new G35 sedan exactly one week ago. Only has 300 miles so far. I'm being pretty cautious in the break-in period: haven't taken it past 4000 rpm, haven't floored it... I noticed when accelerating from a stop there seems to be a "lag" around 3500 rpm - it seems to bog down at this point. It doesn't seem to "punchy" when accelerating. So I picked up a loaner car this morning while the dealership does the Guardian service. And to my great surprise, the loaner car was very responsive when accelerating and very "punchy" - I wish my own, new car was like this! I asked my service advisor and he stated it was because the self-learning transmission has not learned my driving habits yet and that I shouldn't worry. If you have any feedback or comments about this issue, I would really appreciate it. THANKS!

Is your car 6mt or auto? the auto's feel punchier then the sticks.

You've been driving your car under the "break-in" rules, and the computer is adapting itself to your driving style. The loaners get flogged. Once you pass the 1200mi mark and start driving your car harder, the computer will re-learn, and will become "punchier." Or you can speed the process up a bit by looking up the ECU Reset procedures to clear it's memory.

Geez. I feel the same way. I have a manual and have driven 2 loaners and BOY do they feel like they FLY compared to mine. Feels like mine makes noise but goes no where...

Huh... that's really wierd that you think the auto feels quicker than the manual. My dad has an auto 2003 sedan, and every time I've driven it it feels like a slouch compared to mine. I feel the same way about the loaner 2004 g35x I had last week. I also feel like the it's tougher in the auto's to get the back end to break loose.

Re: My loaner car is PUNCHIER than my new car!

I mentioned this after a similar experience on a loaner I had. They said that someone had applied the parking brake and it was driven around for a while with the parking brake applied. Once they finally took the brake off, the learning transmission was ready and it was great on acceleration and punch.

Not that I would suggest you try that with your baby!!

i had a coupe loner a few weeks ago, and it felt slugish compared to my 6mt sedan. Like when i went to pass it felt like the power was there but it took it a sec. or two to kick in but it still didn't seem as powerful as my sedan.

Sedans rule! When I was at the dealer today for my
CD ERROR F0 problem, I checked out the coupe closer
than ever before. Damn! It has no usable trunk! I would not
be able to pack suitcases and stuff in it if I wanted to take
it on a trip. That sucks!

with my last 2 sedan loaners, the "slip" light was on as soon as you started the car up and never turned off. both loaners were pretty new and had under 5,000 miles on them. someone sure drove the heck out of them.

Re: My loaner car is PUNCHIER than my new car!

well...according to many car testers....its supposed to be that way...not to mention the adaptive ECU....the engine needs time to break in...they tested the g35 BRAND NEW...and got like..14.8-14.9 quarter mile time....and then they test it every 5K miles....every time they can achieve a better time....till they get to 14.2-14.3...so...its normal..dun worry =) cars get faster and faster! (until it gets old....kinda like a person) =)

Re: My loaner car is PUNCHIER than my new car!

Folks one thing we're forgetting here. What do we do when WE get that loaner car. We always want to beat our own personal 0-60 records. Most people do things in loaner cars that they would never do in their own ride. It may feel "punchier" because every 2 out 3 people driving it are not driving it their usual way. So the learinig computer got a crash course or harsh driving sooner rather than later.

Re: My loaner car is PUNCHIER than my new car!

THANKS EVERYONE! My car now has almost 800 miles. I have already noticed that it is shifting better and less sluggish than before. I hope it keeps improving. I really appreciate everyone's response...

Re: My loaner car is PUNCHIER than my new car!

Don't push it and teach the auto tranny rougher driving until after break in. I know it is hard, but the peace of mind is better. Do the ECU reset and drive the hell out of it!

I am not saying I ever did or would do this, but how many of you with a loaner have taken it out to a parking lot and shall we say...used up a bit of the rubber?
