I got the remote Start so by the time I'm Ready the car is ready.

Re: POLL:Do you warm up your car for 30seconds?

I always let the engine warm up until it drops below the 1000 RPM mark, usually around 700-800 RPMs. By the time it reaches that, in about 3-5 minutes (in San Diego) the temp of the car is almost at its normal range. While its warming up, I never step on the gas to rev it up, just let it do it normal. I guess if you're in a snow state then probably more time is required. That remote start option sure sounds pimp!

Re: POLL:Do you warm up your car for 30seconds?

Interesting to see that most of the folks on the forum atleast have read the manual . I know so many people who absolutely never bother (breaking, warmup etc.).

The results are about 80% of the folks warmup the car atleast sometime, 60% do it regularly (mornings) and 20% who never do it.

I guess we would not know the impact of that till people have runup closer to 150k miles if then.

Re: POLL:Do you warm up your car for 30seconds?

I had an MX-6 that I put almost 200K on and it was still running strong. I warmed it up every morning. I think that helped to prolong the life of the engine.

Re: POLL:Do you warm up your car for 30seconds?

In the mornings I always let the RPM's drop to under 1000rpm and then the coolant temp starts to rise. Then I drive it nicely shifting up early to let all the metals and oil warm up. I wish our cars had an oil temp monitor instead of just coolant.

Re: POLL:Do you warm up your car for 30seconds?

I agree with smcallis...drive moderately until the temp needle starts climbing to it's midway range home it always seems to reside at.

dyenboy, with some cars, the car has to be actually moving for the oil to get pumped through the block, etc. That is what your friend was probably referring to.

I think it is a good idea to let the revs drop to under 1K, then drive nice and slowly for the next 5 or so minutes until you know all the metals in the engine are heated. Then let her rip!

smcallis,

You're the closest tothe truth. Engine idling is generally bad since gas mixture is rich and washes out oil. Should be reduced to the minimum and depend on air temperature. Based on engineers (engine designers) opinion engine should be ran first lightly to increase temperature. When idling, the engine's temperature will raise much slower than running 1000-1500 rpm. My practice: in winter 30 sec warm-up, other times just a few seconds to settle and gentle dirive out of my development. After water temperature indicator moves-up - "normal" driving. I've tested this technique by measuring fuel consumption (I drive 2x45 miles daily).
