help me identify this part

Hi folks. I currently am looking to change out my '04 reverse lights for the '05 style. I already purchased the LH unit and have been looking for the RH unit. I see this one posted on Ebay, but why does this not look right? Those tabs sticking out the sides would not fit my car. Yet, it definitely appears to be the correct lens. So what the heck is this from?

thats the seal behind the lense... you definitley want to replace that when you remove the original lense... you can get them from the dealer - but it looks like the add includes it, so thats good.

The lense itself looks short though... but it could be the pic

Huh. So how do you get to that seal? Is it flexible and you squeeze it in? I've removed those lenses on my car and I only see easy access to the 2 nuts the hold the lens in and then you pop it out from the front.

My guess is that this part is the reverse tailamp from the M35/45. I know the reverse tailamps from the M and G sedan look awfully similar but I'm not sure about the actual dimensions. I guess one can go to an Infiniti dealer lot and find out.

hmmm... bit of conflicting info. I guess its just best to avoid it, then.
It is the 2nd time its been listed, so I was thinking of writing to the seller, but I guess if we can't identify the part through consensus, there's not much I can tell the seller, either.

edit:
might be as luxusk said, because i just found this:

when you remove the taillights and/or reverse lights there is a seal (the dealer lists it as a "packing seal") - it goes between the back side of the assembly and the trunk lid (on the inside)... it's easier to show than write - but when you remove the lenses you'll see it - you can't miss it.

On the actual G (apparently pic is not) - the seal is seperate... like a gasket - you position it prior to bolting the assembly back on.

one thing to consider is that some vendors use the same picture for multiple applications - even though they have the car specific part available... If I were in the market for 05-06 reverse light, I check a salvage yard first.

Well, I see that seal on mine, but it doesn't have those mounting tabs (I thought maybe you were referring to an inner seal that I can't see). Plus, something else I forgot to mention, the taillight in the ebay auction has a black housing, while the G35 ones I have seen (including mine) have an orange housing.

You are correct, it could be they just used the wrong picture, but I think more likely they have just listed the part incorrectly. I've sent them an email. If they do have the G35 light, maybe they'll let me know.

the tails have the tabs (the little part that stick out with holes in them)... I couldnt remember if the reverse did or not - I was thinking they did but I could be wrong (I've only taken mine off once)

No matter what anyone says. That is NOT a g35 sedan reverse light. Looks nothing like that. Even the seal.

i wrote to the seller and he corrected his ad and thanked me for pointing it out. He is now selling it as an M35/45 light.

The hunt continues!

Thanks for everyones' help.
