changed belts

i had my mechanic change the belts of an 03 sedan. every time i start my car in the morning, i here squealing for about 4-6 seconds. of course it sounds very loud in an empty garage.
my mechanic said they tightened it, however it still continues. is this normal for new belts? is there something else causing this squealing after a cold start? thanks.

humid does play a factor, however, assuming the installation is good, squealing usually means that the belts need to be TIGHTER.

thanks for the instant response.
the cracked belts before made no noises, but it has rained a lot lately.

it's rather embarrassing when the whole neighborhood turns and looks at you when you're starting up...

You need to go back and have them correct this issue, that is NOT acceptable. They need to adjust the tension or lube something or otherwise fix their shiit.

It's typical that the belts stretch out a little in the first week or so. They need tightened a little and you should be good.

I bought some new belts from riverside and they squeaked after installation, after a month and 3 times tightening later and the belts squeak occasionaly. I should have just left the old belts on!

Careful what belts you put on also, use OEM. I worked at Orlando Infinti for two years and was a tech for about 7 years before working there as a Service advisor. Ive always used Goodyear belts on previous cars so I tried those on my G. Those belts squealed so bad it wasn't even funny. I then installed the OEM ones and had a tech look at it, he said these have to be on really tight and I let him do it. I was skeptical at first because I couldn't believe how tight he put them on, but the belts are perfect and do not make a sound. Good luck.
