In cabin air filter change question?

I just did the in cabin air filter change this weekend. Not that bad, took about 30 mins and I followed Ak1nza's procedure found in DYI. Very helpful !!! Thanks man.

Couple of question though:
1. I did not see the metal grill around the filter as shown in the pics of the procedure, the filter was just lying there in the cavity. see step 4 in the install link here IN CABIN FILTER CHANGE : http://eportfolio.babson.edu/2006/an...lterchange.htm

2. There were no gray foam that comes with the new filter on the original filter when I took it out. I although put the foam on the sides of the filter regardless for extra seal but just wondering...

Anyway those who have done the in cabin filter chage can they provide some insight, thanks!!

Re: In cabin air filter change question?

that filter is different than mine too, mine was all paper both the new one and old one. The part numbers were also the same for the new and old one.

Re: In cabin air filter change question?

I'm glad that my DIY has come in helpful! You're very welcome.

The filter I used in the DIY is a filter I made myself. I sell these kits and you can buy them by contacting me on the email listed on the DIY.

The OEM filter is made out of paper and does not create a seal on any of the sides of the filter box, the new one has a strip of hot glue so that it won't flex on the sides but this still doesn't create a full seal, which means that dust, dander, pollen, etc, is still getting circulated around the cabin (less for sure, but still some nonetheless.)

So me and a friend came up with the design which is shown in the DIY pics. I made an aluminum frame and bought the highest grade 3M filtrete filter available. My filter kit creates a much better seal than the stock unit. I had the stock filter and my friend used the new filter and after 6 months we compared filter and the 3M filter was much much blacker and dirtier than the stock ones, which showed that it captured more airborne particles than does the stock unit.

Anyways do contact me if you are interested contact me at mrkool@cbn.net.id.

Re: In cabin air filter change question?

Is this filter really needed???? What will happen if it is not replaced?

Re: In cabin air filter change question?

Yes, it's needed. If it gets too full and clogs up, your A/C-heater system won't be able to efficiently blow air into the cabin, as the air will be blocked by the clogged filter.
