G35 MT6 vs 350z roadster automatic

My brother inlaw got a 2004 350z roadster automatic and we finally raced, off the line i would pull a little lead on him then the beginning of 2nd gear he would pull on me a tad then even all the way thru 3rd gear, i back off at the end of 3rd gear, didnt need any more tickets I'm sure a 6mt 350z would pull away from me, but the automatic 350z is even against the MT6 G35 sedan... He was kind of disappointed that i kept up with him .. hehe

Oh yea i had 3 people in my car and he only had 2.... so not bad

ok, lets say drivers are equally skilled and the Z is broken in, what happend with that extra 20hp as "advertised" with the Z? shouldn't the Z just walk the sedan from the begining?

uh no, the 6spd sedan has dyno proved that it puts down about the same amount of hp to the ground as the 6spd coupe. The 6spd sedan in underated from the factory.

the z has 7 more horsepower than the coupe/sedan but the z is 200 lbs lighter than both. The 200 lbs is equal to .2/10 of a second faster in the quarter mile with equal drivers.

so lets say a driver gets a 14.1 in the quater mile with a sedan, the same driver w/ the same shifting techniques/launch would get a 13.9 in a 350z.

the z wont win because of its 7 hp, it wins because it is 200 lbs lighter.

FYI.

The 350Z MT Roadster's curb weight is 3,462 lbs.

The G35 MT Sedan's curb weight is 3,398 lbs.

The AT versions of each car may be slightly lighter.

Don't forget the Z has a composite driveshaft which allow a little more power to be delivered the rear wheels.

Re: G35 MT6 vs 350z roadster automatic

From what I have seen a MT G sedan should take an auto 350, my auto 350 runs a 14.1 @98.8. Thats was the best time I could muster out of it so if you can drive that manual you can take a 350 auto especially the roadster which is much heavier than the coupe.

I might be wrong but i'm positive i've read the platform for the 350z is different then the G35 coupe/sedan. Besides i was just having some fun on an abandon road.

Nope, all the G35's and 350Z share the same FM (Front Midship) platform. Many parts can be interchanged between the two like brakes, suspension, engine parts.

I've raced a 350z auto roadster. It was even through 1st and 2nd but in 3rd i pulled ahead by half car length. We backed off after that. The sedan is the ULTIMATE sleeper. Don't under estimate the power of 4 doors.!

I own both. I usually drive the Sedan and my wife usually drives the Z. It is a driver's race. The Sedan is no joke.
SLEEPER!!!

wow, never thought i'd hear words like underated, sleeper and dynoed about the same as 6sp coupe to describe family mobile........i like this stealthy theme, keeps cops from eyeing your car...... I LOVE my sedan that much more now!!!!!
