Noise from trunk area

Lately I have been noticing a slight rattle, hollow sound, almost like something rolling around, coming from the back of my car, really only hear it when turning at slow speed, I checked everything in my trunk, spare, jack all seem snug, the only thing I'm not sure of is the tool pouch with the spare. Anyone else notice anything like this? I wonder if it's something in the suspension, I have never had an IRS before.

Re: Noise from trunk area

I had the same sound. I'd have to check the service order, but it was a right rear suspension part. Replaced under warranty and voila! No more noise.
For the longest time I swore it was something rolling around in thr trunk or something slapping against the undercarriage. Does it seem to come predominantly from one side?

Thanks, I will have this checked by the dealer on or before my next oil change! I can't tell which side it's coming from to tell you the truth. Could you check the order when you have a minute and post what it was? I'd appreciate that!

Re: Noise from trunk area

Hey LSLBoiler I'm new to this forum sign up just because I have the same problem with my G and wanted to ask you to look up the part discription & number on your invoice. When I took my car in to the shop they didn't fix the problem said it was my tool bag and or the jack. Relocated everything still hear the noise.
Thanks for you help,
Kev...

Re: Noise from trunk area

Okay, took the car in today, the service guy went for a ride with me, heard it right away, they replaced this part:
"Stabilizer Connecting Rod" -
Part # ROD-CONNECTING, REAR-54618-AL510 ASR

Seems to have taken care of the noise!

Re: Noise from trunk area

So I just want to confirm before I take it in and they blame my stereo and/or Z suspension, the noise comes from the rear and sounds like a clock ticking rapidly (kind of)? I'll bring a note with that suspension part but I've heard others who have said the fix is replacing some foam pieces?

Check out this site:

http://www.infinitihelp.com/Infiniti/index.htm

There are a couple of TSB's for noises from the rear of the car. I just had one performed for the creaking noise. Check both 2003 and 2004 TSB's.

Re: Noise from trunk area

I was in my Coupe trunk today, and found another source of noises: There are 2 large black plastic box type structures on either side of my spare, that are held down by a few 10mm bolts. I think they are protection for wiring, and support for the trunk floor. One both sides there were bolts missing, causing rattling etc.
Yet another source of rattling is the loose mounting of all the tools. Once secured and cushioned, all was quiet.
The spare will make noises too if not bolted properly.

Re: Noise from trunk area

Hey_Ya,
My noise sounded almost like something had a bad bushing on it, almost a "popping" sound, would only really hear it driving slowly through a parking lot and turning, I hope that helps, I had a terrible time describing it to the dealer, but the tech went for a short road test with me, he heard it right away! Not a ticking sound.

Re: Noise from trunk area

Glad I could help, hope your dealer will take care of it! Try to take a tech for a ride, sometimes it's easier than just having them drive it, they may hear something different, LOL, all I had to do was go through the lot with him, he heard the noise right away!

Re: Noise from trunk area

The problem was two bad stabilizer links in the right rear suspension. Here are the part numbers:
54668-AL510 and 54618-AL510
