New windshield
The dreded event finally happened! I heard a loud "thwack",
like a marble hitting glass. Oh S*it!. No crack yet. Parked it
after lunch and went back to office. When I came out after
work, there it was! A long crack in the windshield. Sigh........
I called up my insurance company, USAA, and told them
about it. Well, since I have a $500 comprehensive deductable,
USAA called around to see how much a new one would cost.
They found that Safelite would replace it for $413. So I had
to eat the entire cost. I called up Safelite about having them
come on Saturday to replace it. They had no one available to
come to my house. BUT, if I could drive the G to their office,
They would knock off $53 of the installation price! OH BOY!
I drove up to their office and paid $360 to have a brand new
windshield installed on the G35 Sedan. My wife said "Happy
Father's Day". I wanted the TechnoSquare ECU flash for
Father's Day. Drats!!!!

Re: New windshield
Why do you have such a high comprehensive deductible? I am still at $50 on mine, I had tried to lower my insurance cost a couple of years ago, but raising my comp deductible would have only saved like $15, not worth it IMO!

Re: New windshield
$15 per what?
Going from $500/$500 to $50comprehensive/$100collision on my policy would be $330 a year, or $27.50 per month. Considering that I haven't had an accident requiring me to pay a deductible in the last 10 years, it's cheaper to keep the higher deductible, even if I wind up having to pay it at some point. Even a $250comprehensive/$200collision would cost an extra $178 a year. Unless you're making a claim every year and having to pay the deductible, there's not much point in having a small one.

Re: New windshield
That was per 6 months, for comprehensive, my collision is a higher deductible, $250. I have always had it at $50 for the comp, guess it depends on your state, and your age perhaps. My insurance came down so much from my Mustang GT anyway, it seems really cheap at this point!

Oh well, it happens to the best of us... and you used just about the best place you could. SafeLite is a great place, they use great glass, looks and fits the exact same as OEM if it's not OEM, and a lifetime warranty on the work. Rest assured if safelite charged you ~$400, most other places would have been stinging you for ~$650. And, it's not that big a deal, at least you didn't have to claim it on your insurance and take the ding on your insurance record.
I recently used those guys too to replace a windshield on a nearly-new VW Jetta. the glass looks awesome, the installation was great, they did it out at my home, and they saved me about $300 over the competition who insisted on using OEM glass.

Re: New windshield
I am really happy with Safelite. I watched the windshield
install. When the old one was removed, we could see that
Infiniti did not seal the bottom edge of the windshield! The
installer asked me if I had wind noise in the G. Also said
it should be quieter now that all four sides of the windshiled
were now properly sealed. I do think it is quieter.
We have the $500 deductable for a reason, a few years ago
my wife had an accident every few months. USAA told us they
were going to non-renew our insurance. So the wife calls them
up and explains that although yes, she has been reckless
lately, that the cost of our premiums outweighed the cost of
claims. Ha. And would they PLEASE renew us with $500
deductables. They did.
