G35 Family Car?

My wife and are are in the processing of adopting 2 kids (6 months and 18 months old). Because of this, we need to get rid of our Miata for something a little more practical and we just can't do the minivan thing.

We really like the G35 Sedan, and it seems like the car seats would fit in the back seat OK. But we're concerned about fitting a double stroller through that small trunk opening. Has anyone had any experience with 2 kids in this car? Does is really work, or is this a pipe dream?

Our other thought is an I35, but the G35 is soooo much nice looking...

Thanks for your help.

Re: G35 Family Car?

Go for a test drive and bring your stroller along... I have a feeling it won't fit in either car... I am picking up my Honda Odyssey tomorrow night the G35 doesn't cut it as a family car... but now I am stuck with a 4 door slush box... damn I want to get rid of my G35 5AT Sedan and get a 350Z 6MT... or should I get a Honda S2000 those are pretty sweet I was eyeing one while we were inking the deal on the minivan.

Re: G35 Family Car?

Years ago, we got a twin umbrella stroller (Perego I think) that would fit in any car. It was a nice one because it reclined so the kids could sleep in it. There are a few good twin strollers that are not monsters. I say "get the G" and also buy a new stroller that will fit in the trunk.

Of course now it's muddy soccer cleats that has me going nuts on Saturdays. Kids grow up really fast.

Good luck in your decision.

Re: G35 Family Car?

Well, I've already got my own muddy soccer cleats, so I'm not worried about that!

The I35 looks like it has a pretty good sized trunk, but like I said we like the G better. We haven't gotten the stroller yet because we're still in the process and don't know exactly how old the kids will end up being when we get them, so I was trying to shortcut the "bring the stroller to the test drive" method. But it seems like that's going to be what it takes.

It just seems like a shame to have to buy a car based on how big the trunk is. I guess that means I'm going to have to grow up now? I miss my Eagle Talon Turbo/AWD....

Re: G35 Family Car?

I have a 1 year old and a 3 year old and we have alot of room. I have two baby chair and sometimes I have someone sit in the middle of the seats. As far as the double baby stroller I don't know. I had a full size stroller and a folding stroller in the trunk with no problem. I have even put there red wagon in the trunk when going to the zoo or park. Its all about how you pack the vehicle.
I traded in my Durango for the G but I also have an old full size Jimmy and a Passport at home.
Did you look at the FX35?

Hope this helps

Re: G35 Family Car?

like a poster said, it's all about how you pack your stuff. my six year old sits between a baby car seat and a booster seat. by the time it gets too snug for him, my daughter will no longer need the booster. for me, the sedan is my family car, business car and a sleeper all wrapped into one......i would find a stroller to fit this car, not the other way around.....

Re: G35 Family Car?

I have a 1 and 2 year old, both car seats fit just fine and so does the double stroller. I first thought there was no way it would fit but the trunk is much bigger than it appears.

YES!

I drive my 3 kids around, and they all fit in the back, although long car trips might be difficult. My 7 year-old sits between a rear-facing car seat and a booster seat.

I would adopt enough kids to fit in this car, not the other way around.

Re: G35 Family Car?

I know a full size single stroller fits even with my 12" subwoofer and 2 amplifiers.

Re: G35 Family Car?

It's a great car for running around town, even with kids. If your stroller fits the trunk, you're good. However, it (or any sedan, for that matter) may not be big enough for road trips, unless you can ditch the stroller or get by with the skinny umbrella style for the excursion. I have an infant and a 10-yr old, and I can cram the full-size stroller in the trunk for city trips. When we hit the road (and take the dog, too) we take the Expedition.

Have a 3 yr old and a 8 month. Both car seats fit in the middle and side. Leaves room for one to sit in the back. Twin Savvy Combi stroller will fit in the trunk. There is still room for my softball bag too! We have an explorer for overnight trips, but day trips are fine in the G35.

Re: G35 Family Car?

My family is a bit beyond the stroller stage - my kids are 12 and 9 - but the trunk is actually quite roomy. For us, the G35 has been a great family car on weekends - I mostly drive it myself during the week.
