well just picked up my X last friday love it so much already but my dad decided to bring it to a local guy hes known for quite some time now to get it inspected just incase (we know shoulda done it before) to see if we have anything that we can get covered uder the 1 month 3000mile warrenty, then today when i got home from school, i noticed the "service engine soon" light on this just got me really dissapointed and basicly depressed.

so wish me and the G best of luck tomarrow

well just got word from my dad 5 minutes ago, the front brake were completly gone (which explains the horrible noise that was coming from them) and the backs have about 35% left. On the other hand im not sure if they checked why my service engine light came on or not but im going to have to go back to the place i bought it from and have them change the brakes under warrenty and have them find why my check engine light came on. I just hope he doesnt try to screw us over, which is what he basicly did giving us a car with not brakes left lol

The guy we took it to get inspeceted also said other then the brakes and the check engine light everything is perfect so that made me feel alot better

and i should be going to pick up the car later tonight once pops gets outta work and should it be

Fianlly should it be ok to drive the car even though the service engine soon light is on? only going to be driving it to work tomarrow and sunday, so maybe about 30-50miles

more than likely if the car starts and runs fine then you are ok.

It may be running lean or rich, possbly bad gas running though.

You can go to autozone and they can run the code for free.If it is something minor they can clear the code for you.

Why would you keep driving a car that emits a grinding noise everytime you step on the brakes? Wouldnt that give you a hint that something is wrong and you should stop driving right there and then?

WOW, so this is what happens to a typical nuub consumer. Mcaron please don't be offended by my opinions. I can't believe you bought a car without going to a mechanic. I'm even more confused how you went in under warranty for a check engine light and ended up paying for brakes. STILL driving off with the check engine light on, like wtf? I think your a victim of our economy. I don't understand how you have warranty and a check engine light after leaving the service department. When everything with the engine is ok, the light is not on. Brakes usually show a exclamation mark ! or a check oil light in rare times. Why would a car light up check engine for worn brakes. Please do more research before you spend another dollar on the car. I bet what you spent to change 4 pads costs just as much as an aftermarket setup, that's much superior to the oem brakes. Google is your friend...

Dude, when i got my car the first day 2 hours later the "service engine" light came on. i have my car checked before buying it and the brake and the oil needed changing. the dealer did it(no cost to me)

i live close to a Autozone and they checked it and said it was my car cap. so they reset it. just ask them to check ur car it takes 10mins.

i got a 2004 G35x 72K $14000 with Navi

Enjoy Yours

i know we shoulda brought the car to a mechanic before buying it, but i did bring a freidn who has been wokring on cars his whole life. Second i didnt bring the car in because of the brakes, i brought it in to get inpected... and thrid i didnt get my brakes changed yet, im going to go where i bought it(not an infiniti dealership) and there going to fix it there as well as check the "service engine soon" light.

and also i wasnt driving the car while the light was on, it came on the day i brought it to the garage, so i drove about 5 miles with the light on.

and dont worry not offened lol i know very little about cars

But you did drive it around with little to no brakes as evidence by the horrid grinding sound coming from the front of the car everytime you applied pressure to the pedal. I don't understand how that didn't concern you enough to stop driving and causing more damage to the rotor.
