Since you wanted a 6mt in the first place, I would get the 6mt sedan. AWD isn't a miracle worker, but it is nice at times if you drive in snow. Still you would do just as well if you got the 6mt sedan and threw some dedicated winter tires on it. Besides, stock for stock, the 6mt sedan is lighter (and therefore faster) than the 6mt coupe.

Sedans FTW

I duno

Test drive both. When i got mine i REEeeeaalllly wanted a 6mt but they just felt very loose to me in both the clutch and stick travel. I tried a couple so i dont think it was just the car, but then again maybe im spoiled by VW gearboxes . My decision was driven by the fact that the transmission felt VERY sturdy in the AT, i heard a rumor that (please correct me if im wrong) its even the same tranny as the titan pickup. I auto-x my G and generally drive it like a manual (with the tiptronic, downshifting to brake, ect) and i have yet to hear a peep from the tranny edgewise.

Its your decision ultimately, but i love my AT you just have to learn to compensate for the slow shift times as opposed to a MT. To confuse you even more, i live a lil north of germantown and i have never had a problem with my 2wd in the snow

6mt is amazing, feels like its a totaly diffrent car.

My buddies mom has a 05x, he took it out and we did some runs for fun. It didnt stand a chance.

But with 6mt if it snows the slightest bit, your ****ed unless you got some realy badass tires... your not as ****ed.

I really wanted a 6MT coupe but found a G35X auto with extemly low miles. I was very pleasantly surprised at how the tranny behaves. It kinda learns how you drive and changes the shift points. If you want to drive aggresively it will shift accordingly. I had a Nissan 300ZX manual, and this does almost as well. You have to decide on the whole factor - wife, etc. By the way, in Minnesota winters the AWD performs very well. I would not have driven the coupe in the winter, I also have a 4WD truck.

thank you for all the responds it provided very useful info. ive driven my friends 04x it is seem pretty solid. i need to test drive the 6mt tho.
6MT+winter tires on stock/summers on rays seems tempting but so does the AWD. guess Il just have to test drive more 6MT and X's

The problem is when they don't know how but try anyway. A gal I work with just burned out the clutch on her husband's Subaru. He took it in and they had to replace the clutch and flywheel to the tune of about 2k.

(wife wants the awd)

any suggestions?
Because you live in the DC area, AWD isn't a necessity, so options are still open for you...but, you say you're going to do some mods. Do you plan on lowering your car at all & do you care about ride height?

The X model's suspension is different than the RWD G's and are jacked up a bit....AND you don't have any good options for lowering your car (unless you get custom shocks made and drop a few $G's). If lowering & ride height doesn't matter, than the X is still an option, but if you do want a lower ride, go with the 6mt. There's a WHOLE thread stickied above regarding X's and lowered/aftermarket suspensions.

Hoe that helps...good luck!

All 1st Gen 6MT sedans did not come with the intelligent key.
