This isn't a big deal but was just wondering about that stupid flippy thing in my 05 sedan cupholder. It is either up or down, never stays in the middle and rattles when I go over a bump. Is this normal cause it's really annoying.

The only issues I have are when I have a water bottle in either side; then a rattle begins. Other than that no squeaks when empty, or when my leather bound coffee cup is in place. The flippy thing is always up when empty.

i never knew how it worked either... when i bought my car used it up, i played aorund thinking there was a tab or some sort then i poped it down. i lefted it down because it made life so much easier and it tends to rattle less...

beside freaking cup holders are USELESS, other then a 20oz bottle and normal can it cant do anything. and the rears are even worst.

it still rattles in the down position. I was thinking of ripping that tab right off.

mine seems to creak when the cover is in the up position. When it is closed it does not rattle.

are you talking about the one that's a removeable piece? It's suppose to have a spring inside to keep it up, maybe that spring fell off?

That spring would totally make sense! I guess I don't have it.

I concur, that flap is very annoying. I would try to cram it down, but I'm afraid that I might break it. I want to find the fool who designed this, and force them to explain what the benefit is.....

Pics of spring.

Mine is always in the raised position unless there's something in the cup holder to cause the divider to flip down. In any event, I have no rattles (except from plastic bottles) and no complaints about the cupholder

Sorry the pics aren't better, I'm not much of a photographer.

To see the spring you have to remove the cup holder assembly with divider (you just lift it out) and flip down the the flap and then look in the slot near the flap hinge from the back.

Thanks for the picture. That explains it now. I thought it was just a stupid design but now it kinda makes sense. Although they could be a bit bigger IMO.
