Will it work?

Can you fit 245/55/17 tires on stock rim?

I was thinking about doing 235 in the back and 225 in the front.

Any ideas?

A guideline is 2" more than the rims width.

So if you have a 17x7 rim, that means you should go 9" wide for the tire. That's about 228mm, so a 225 tire would be ideal. Again...just a guideline and not a set in stone rule.

You can go wider, but you will have sidewall bulge. Handling tends to suffer as well since the bulge allows the tire to roll over on itself in turns.

Of course, it all depends on the tire too. Some tires have stiff sidewalls and some do not.

Also, tire diameters will change too

215/55/17 = 26.3" dia
225/50/17 = 25.9" dia
225/55/17 = 26.7" dia
235/50/17 = 26.3" dia
245/50/17 = 26.6" dia.

235/50/17 worked great for me, all around, why go 225 front 235 back, just stick with one width that way when u rotate u always have the same type of traction, 215 was garbage, even in the summer too much squealing, what the **** where they thinking, putting on 205s for base models and only 215 with the sport package, should've been 245 for base at least

I just purchased (Tuesday) a 06 G35 Sedan at a dealer. The previous owner had made a few mods to it. The tire placard says 215/55-17, but the car has 225/45-17 tires actually on it. I think the wheels are stock. How would these different tire sizes impact the car? I know what the tire sizes mean sort of, but I don't have a good concept of how they impact handling/speedo/clearance/etc...

Thanks

215/55/17's are 26.3" in diamter
225/45/17's are 25.0" in diameter

That;s a 5.1% difference

So if you are doing 60MPH according to your speedo, you are actually doing 56.9 MPH

The ride might be a little rougher since you have a shorter sidewall. You might want to consider the stock size or 235/50/17 your next time around when you get tires.

Thanks.

By the way, that would also mean that the odometer is off by 5% also (and navi computed mpg, etc...), right?

Thanks again

Correct, it would all be slightly off.

235/50/17 would be the way I go for tires all around. Same diameter and roughly 20mm more contact patch
