Battery discharge..

Hey,
I tried to jump start my friends vehicle today, and i found a Purple discharge coming from the battery's positive and negative terminal. Anyone know what this is, and if this is very harmful? i already wiped it down, but not completely.
thanks in advance.

the purple stuff could be, di-electric grease or something along those lines to prevent i forget what....

BG has battery cleaning stuff and it is orange, i've seen a lot of aftermarket stuff that is RED.

stuff coming from the battery is normally WHITE powder.

The battery terminal spray that I use for corrosion prevention is purple which is most likely the case for this vehicle. If you suspect its battery acid just drop some baking powder on it and if it bubbles and reacts than it is in fact acid.
