How? I've got some HKS sticky pads for my mirror.. Is that a mod? I went and brought a Blitz cup holder... Is that a mod? At what point does an alteration become a mod, and not just a stick on bit of tat?

Granted stickers aren't really mods nor is a blitz cup holder but I think painting your oem grill is or replacing your stock interior light or headlights are. Your changing your cars overall appearance. These mods might be overseen due the fact thats its so common. Regardless its your opinion vs mine and we all have different views so... meh

mod = modify = change

rice = race inspired COSMETIC design = looks fast but isn't

RICE is a misused word on Driver all the time

Twas the night before Christmas and caught at the light,
Was a domestic V8 and no cops in sight,
I will try, I will try, I will try with this small motor,
To beat this damn Camaro, even with its big blower,
As the light goes green and I pull like no joke,
The Camaro erupts in clouds of tire smoke,
Now Smasher, now Rev-ver, now Stroker, now Blitzin,
These are the names of my four VTEC pistons,
Racing ahead I'm the star of the action,
But I know I'm in trouble when V8 gets traction,
Grabbing second, I hear the RPM's sing,
My mirror is blocked by my shopping kart wing,
I now hear the roar of the big monster gaining,
All I can do is keeping the four-banger straining,
In a second, the shock wave hits with a blast,
And my stickers go flying now a thing of the past,
Don't bother with third, cause now it's too late,
Just try to act cool, like you can relate,
Looking up at the taillights as they get smaller,
The driver back off just to give me a holler,
"You can't win them all," he says in fling,
"You may not win any, in that silly thing,"
I smiled and revved as he pulled out of sight,
With my new mods tomorrow…it will be a better night.

If it’s not stock, its modified (mods)… there are performance mods, there are aesthetic mods… some of us do lots of both.

The most important thing about modding a car is doing it to please the owner. If others like it, cool – if they don’t who cares.

So as mod I guess....

Some people need to pick up a dictionary. Just because it doesn't add to performance doesn't mean it's not a modification to a vehicle.

That is a matter of opinion, not a definition. If some says to me "yeah, I've got a modified car", I don't expect stickers, lights, and cupholders. I expect intake, exhaust, plenum, headers, brakes, tyres, etc... Still, if some of you think cosmetic equates to mods, fill your boots

it's really, really simple.
MODS=modifications
there are three types of mods.
GO-parts which produce REAL results that enable you to GO, ie, your coilovers or (arguably) your CAI.
SHOW- these parts are purely cosmetic. designed to enable you to SHOW(off), or attract attention. these mods would be mods such as a shift boot made with fancy handstitched leather.
RICE- these are mods INTENDED to be either show or go mods, but instead do nothing for either and get you made fun of in the process. ie, spinning hubcap rims.

hope that cleared things up for you, you seemed a bit confused.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

It cracks me up what people bicker about on this board. I know if I need a laugh, I can usually find one somewhere on Driver. I believe what OC said to be true. If you like it do it to your car. That's all that matters, bottom line. To argue over what is a mod and what isn't is silly, but entertaining I must admit.

Keep up the good work guys, we've made 8 pages so far, I say let's shoot for 20. I'd say a little more but I gotta go install my MD 5/16 this morning.

Peace...
