Has Anyone Added A Sunroof

I bought a 2005 G35x last Tuesday that didn't come with a sun/moonroof. Right now I am thinking about adding one but am a bit hesitant. I'm not sure why since I added one to my 97 Maxima and didn't have any issues with it.

Has anyone added a sun/moonroof to their car? And if so, have you had any issues.

Here is the company I am researching:

why would you buy a g35 without a sunroof? i looked at two and one didn't have one... also lacked a bunch of other stuff...

fwiw, before you add an aftermarket sunroof, do A LOT OF RESEARCH. doing it wrong/hack will result in major issues such as leakage and most commonly rust. the dealership i worked at had a contract guy who installed all their sunroofs. try to find out how much it would be through the infinit dealership and if you can get the name of the people they use, try to cut out the middleman(and dealer markup) and go to that guy.

I don't believe the dealer has someone install a sunroof. They generally come installed from the factory.

I had a Webasto power sunroof added on my old Lincoln LS. Worked fine, no problems, no leaks. I believe it was $1000 or so... this is going back about 5 years tho.

I bought it because it was a deal at $14,500. The ones with sunroofs were at least $17000.

That's the same brand that I put on my 97 Maxima. I didn't have any issue with it what so ever. And it was only $800 back in 2002. I just can't remember the shop that put it in.

You might be better off to sell your base G for one with the package you want. There is some demand for the non moonroof G's because they are lighter.

that's actually only true about new cars. with preowned cars, if the customer wants a sunroof and not having one is a deal breaker and the profit margin will allow it, they'll do just it. they'll do just about anything to make a sale if they can, especially with car sales the way they are. I've actually been able to work into my past two deals an aftermarket stereo. when i was at Lexus they would put pin-striping on a car if a customer wanted.

yeah i can see a difference in price of several thousand making up your mind, but i doubt the only difference between them was the sunroof. you're talking about almost three grand.

although you didn't have any immediate issues, it's very possible you didn't know what issues developed over time. one of the major issues is rust because the drainage channels arent put in.

Cars that have had aftermarket sunroofs installed sometimes suffer a little bit more depreciation hit. Not many people want to take a chance on it not leaking when they can look around a bit more and find one with a factory sunroof in it. In the end, the money you save buying a non-sunroof car, then installing an aftermarket roof and thent he depreciation hit usually balances out anyway.

I personally would walk away from a car with an aftermarket sunroof. I've seen some real horror stories down the road from them.

I have never even seen a G without a sunroof. That much be a real base model G35x huh?

True, base model G's without the sunroof, power seats, leather, etc... are sought for by people who want the lighter car for the tracks, but keep in mind he's got an x.

I had an aftermarket sunroof installed in an SUV in 2000. Worked perfectly through 2006 when I sold the truck. It had added features too like closing automatically a few seconds after the car turned off.
