Waxing wheels?

I read in the owners manual that the wheels should be waxed because of road salt. I have never done this, and I was wondering if i should start. Thanks in advance.

Waxing the wheels is a very good idea, it also helps with brake dust. You wouldnt eliminate the brake dust but it will be alot easier to remove it when you wash the car. I always wax my wheels , more often than i do the body, but im neurotic

I have to agree! Waxing will protect your wheels. It's real easy, just apply wax as you would to your car, not much different.

LOL! i don't know about easy. It's a pain in the **** if you ask me. I use zaino and usually just take my wheels off twice a year and apply 3 coats. Then I don't have to worry about them again.

Re: Waxing wheels?

Not only do I wax my wheels, but I also wax all lights (headlights, tailights, etc.), all painted surfaces (including moldings) and chrome tailpipe tips and moldings...why not?? The wax definitely protects all the surfaces and keep them shiny.

I noticed that most car wash/detail places typically just wax the regular painted surfaces (probably to save time and $$). If I don't feel like waxing my car, I'll have my local car wash/detail place do it (with my wax), and I'll just ask them to wax 'everything' with their orbital waxer. To me, it's worth the $25 plus $4 tip to watch them do it! ;-)

Re: Waxing wheels?

If you are going to spend the time waxing your wheels, then you should try this product. Go to www.corrionx.com and look for RejeX. This product is not a wax and last a lot longer than wax. You can also use it to wax your car!!! I have been using it for some time ever since I read it in Car & Driver(not an ad). It is easier to apply and lasts a lot longer than wax. Check it out!

Re: Waxing wheels?

I wax the wheels - just the outside areaa though. I use a product called RejeX (similar to wax) and it makes a big difference in getting the brake dust off.

Re: Waxing wheels?

you probably wax em inside out?! ) I only suffice to the exterior. It takes a good 30 minutes for all 4 but I only apply it 4-5 times a year so it's ok.

One question though, do you have to balance/align them every time you take em off?

Re: Waxing wheels?

81, no you don't have to balance and align them when you remove the wheels. However, when you rotate the tires, you may have to balance them again because the rear tires sometimes may not be balanced correctly due to the wear, and you won't feel it until you put them in the front. As for the front wheel drive cars, the wear mainly come from the front tires.
