Increase mpg by 15% with pure acetone?????

Apparently the jury is still out based on "research" from other sites that have discussed this. Those with experience and some mechanics suggest that pure acetone might not (?????) eat at the injectors, engine's plastics and rubbers as suggested (it does come in a plastic bottle). For some it seems to work and for others it's a scary idea. Mythbusters did a stint on it, but, according to several reports, did not use pure acetone, thus contaminating their findings.
I would never use it, but for the brave few, it has been tried with little known damage.

Ethanol and acetone are virtually the same aren't they? I think acetone has an extra carbon atom on its molecule, meaning it'll require a richer mixture to combust. Hell, if you were to balance the equations for combustion, acetone would require an additional oxygen molecule to combust, meaning you'll get even worse gas mileage than with the addition of ethanol. I'm probably wrong, though. I change from chemical engineering to computer engineering because I was too dumb for the former...so take what I say with a crater of salt.
