My G is loosing power and gas mileage

So my 2003 G is really struggling to get speed, its using high RPMs and getting little acceleration.

I've tried changing my air filter and oil but that didnt help much.

What do you guys think is the issue? i'm losing about 20-25 Gallons per tank.

haha my bad, i meant i'm losing 20-25 MILES per full tank fillup.

i used to get over 300 miles on a tank easy w/ just regular driving and now its down to 275 AND i'm losing power. i'd be cool w/ it if i was getting more power, but this is a lose lose situation.

Have you ever cleaned your MAF sensor?

The addition of ethanal could account for the mpg loss.

Let's say you usually fill up with 16 gallons per 300 mile run. That's 18.75 mpg

Now at 275, it's 17.1 for the same 16 gallons. That's about a 10% difference.

During the winters, I notice about a 1 mpg loss due to the addition of ethanol.

Don't know about your power loss though.

how many miles do you have?
maybe it's time for a tune-up including the spark plugs.

^^^ Exactly!

DO NOT MESS with your MAF. You can damage them so easily you have no idea.

I would really recommend a simple tune up.

I've cleaned my maf sensor before. You just have to treat it gently and not be retarded about it. Q-tip and rubbing alcohol

Well that's great for you, seriously, but I strongly urge people not to clean their MAF. This guy doesn't even know where the MAF is, not a good sign for someone to be messing with one.

Besides, I was just told recently by an tech at Inifiniti that the MAF pretty much vapourizes any deposits that touch it instantly. He agreed that the MAFs on the older 300z, etc this needed to be cleaned.

Take it for what its worth, just my opinion.

Well you and the tech are incorrect IMHO. The MAF is hot wire type sensor but it's not heated to that extent. I've cleaned dirt/oil off of my wife's RX300 maf and my G35 maf.

Jeff (been there and done that)

Maybe I wish a had a pair big enough to let me mess with it. I'm not touching it though. I was told that because when my car was in I asked them to check and clean my MAF. This is what I was told. Could have been a brush off, could have been 100% accurate.

Techs are good at performing very specific tasks (like monkeys) but very few actually know the theory behind the parts they work on.
