6 speed 04 sedan

Hey there fellas I just joined this forum in hopes to get some help. After realizing that the 350Z was just not practical enough for me, I finally made the decision to get an 04 6 speed g35. The car im looking to purchase simply has the factory chromed rims and a sunroof on black exterior. It comes out to right at 33 grand. The invoice at edmunds is right at 30 roughly. Here are some questions:

1. With the 05's information out now, will be easier to get a better deal and if so what price should I shoot for on a 33 grand car. I wanted to stay below 30 honestly if at all possible(before taxes and all of course). Do you think that this may be doable? If not what should I go for?

2. I dont want the Bose bc firstly it sounds like crap and if i want to change it out later, Id have to remove everything...so my question is with the base stereo, all im wanting to do is add a 10 inch sub for bass, would this be doable without ruining the interior layout and not getting a different headunit?

3. Also I realize im getting a bit picky now, but do you think the dealer would get me better tires bc Im not a fan of the Turanza or the RS-A. If I am forced to choose, which one of these tires are better to go with?

Thats all for now fellas and thanks in advance for your help! I am excited to get my new car!

Re: 6 speed 04 sedan

I have the upgraded bose stereo and subwoofer and it sounds great. Listen to it first. I have the taurenza tires and they work very well on my 35X.
Good luck

Happy to own my G35X

when finalizing price, you should get as close to invoice as possible. Usually 2% over invoice price is a very good deal. Can it get lower, sure, but you really have to be firm and savvy on the shopping and questions you're asking. In the end it comes out to "how much money is the dealer making on this sale". If you can find their target price, how low can they go before they they lose money on the sale or break even, then you're getting somewhere.

The bose stereo does sound good like drilltodd said. My previous car had all aftermarket stereo by kenwood, around 1500 watts of power altogether. This one suits me just fine, then again i don't blast like i used to, this car is above that.

The tires do provide a very comfortable ride, even though i have 19" wheels now, but they did provide a good ride, but that's a minor detail.

Re: 6 speed 04 sedan

Try to figure out, through some tough questions, how badly they want to sell the car to you. From my experience, dealers are not having the best time selling 6MT sedans. It figures since most 6MT drivers would opt for the coupe. Ask them how long its been on the lot, suggest to them nobody will come for weeks to even look at the car if they didn't sell it to you now, and they will pay finance charges forever on it. Tell them about the tires and radio, and its not EXACTLY what you want. Tell them you know about dealer holdback(extra money they make).

Thats what I did and got mine for 2K under invoice. But my car was sitting on the showroom for close to 4 months. Your mileage may vary!

Re: 6 speed 04 sedan

I bought my 2003 6mt sedan in october right when the 04's were coming out. They had already put a "red tag" sale on it that brought it down to just above invoice. They added $500 admin fee ( bs about advertising aircondiotiong rent and lighting, give me a break) I told them to buy a trailer and sell them on the street I dont care. The car also had the aero package which I wanted, but noticed that all the 6mt's with premium and navi also had the aero package, so I played like I didn't want it and knocked that off the price too. I went in armed with a print out from Kelly blue book on new car value in my area that shows invoice delivery and average selling price. With this I got my fully loaded car out the door for 32,500. Good luck and play hard ball

1. Not sure if you can get any incentives now since it's still early. Still have a good 6 months before the 05 6MT's come out. But I do know you can pretty easily get an '04 6MT for $500 over invoice. I got mine back in Nov. for that price on the first try. No haggling or anything. You could always do even better.

2. Not a big audio guy so can't help you here.

3. You know they also do offer the 5 spoke sport wheels with the Eagle GSD tires right? Those tires are Summer tires and are much, much grippier than the Turanzas or RS-A. If you can avoid the Turanzas or RS-A at all costs. But of course the GSD's also wear a lot faster too since they are a softer compound. The treadwear rating is like 180AA. Overall I like the tires alot but you can find even better for cheaper. When these GSD's run out I'm getting myself some F1 GSD3's for sure.

Re: 6 speed 04 sedan

The Bose in the Z sucks, the Bose in the G35 Sedan sounds great. Hear it before making your conclusion on not wanting it.

Re: 6 speed 04 sedan

Can't help you with the tire issue, but I have an opinion on the sound system. Also, I paid $500 less than the Edmunds and Blue Book average price for my '04 (auto, leather, sunroof, standard sound and interior pkg) last October. Maybe not the greatest deal, but that was the best I could do at the time.

I opted not to go with the Bose premium sound package. I'm really into music, so the sound system is very important to me. Honestly, I couldn't tell much difference between the packages and wasn't sure I liked what difference I could hear. I think the subwoofer is inadequate and I don't really like the Bose tone.

I was mildly disappointed when I took my car in for a stereo system upgrade. I knew that the head unit would have to stay, but found out it didn't have a pre-amp out. So, they had to install a line-level converter to run to the amp for the subwoofer. Not the best scenario, but worked out fine.

It seemed that every salesperson wanted to replace all the factory speakers, install an amp for the speakers, and install an amp and subwoofer. I used the amp and subwoofer from my previous car and followed the recommendation from a sound tech that has really been great. He suggested that I only replace the front speakers and tweeters and leave the factory rear speakers. The reason is that the factory speakers have more mids. I replaced the fronts with Infinity Combos, left the back, and installed a 200 watt amp and 10" JBL subwoofer in the trunk.

The factory head unit has enough power unless you want to crank it really, really loud. This set up has great balance and sounds really clean. I spent about $400 for the Infinity's, installation, and wiring for the sub amp. I had about $400 in the sub and amp, so all in around $800 invested. The premium sound package would have cost me $800. So, I think I got a much better system for the same price.
