Its time (getting rid of the STi for a G35S)

Ok for those who dont kow I have have an 04 STi and It looks like its possibly time for me to get rid of it and jump into a G35 Sedan..

If I do I'm planning on either supercharging it or turbocharging it.. Guess, I'm use to turbo cars..

I like the 2 door coupe but its just not for me with 2 kids and all.

Question is should I get an 05 or an 04 and also should I get the X.

P.S. Anyone want to trade for 04 STi =)

Finally, the guy who runs the site gets a G! I'd say get an 04 just so that I'm not jealous... and we know most of the quirks with the 03/04 Gs now, and I'd be less prone to turbo charge a car I'm not intimate with... yeah, THAT kind of intimate.

If it wasn't for insurance, I would trade for your STi in a second.

IMO, interior of the 2005 G sedan looks...meh. However, you do get 280hp stock and the front end, side skirts, and rear are all painted/changed. Whereas, the 03 and 04's are black and cheap looking.

Now that I have my 03 painted lowers, I wouldn't give it up for the 05 even if it does have 20 more hp. Like I said earlier, the interior of the 05 is not as appealing in my opinion. Maybe I have to see it in person...

It's still a G thang!!

I'd vote to get an '04 6MT Sedan and then supercharge it with the Vortech unit. If you don't mind me asking why are you considering getting rid of the STi? The STi does after all handle better, has more power, and is more track ready. But then again those might not mean as much to you as the G hands down is classier, better fit and finish, and has alot more luxuries. Also the G is no slouch either. Or better yet, keep the STi for track days and the G for the daily driver. =D

Get a turbo and a updated suspension and you get a nice car there.

04, I think you will get a better deal and there are not enough improvements to justify waiting and paying more.

I really like the X, but there is not 6MT, and it weighs and costs a lot more. At least 200 extra pounds, and a lot of extra cash. The RWD is so balanced and handles so well, unless you live where AWD would help, I would say it is a waste.

I had a 350Z for 1 1/2 years and went to the G35 Sedan. Once I get the brakes and Nismo suspension on I think it will be very close to the Z (other than the steering response).

Re: Its time (getting rid of the STi for a G35S)

From the pics I've seen I would definitely take an '04 at a great deal. I hate the coupe front end on the sedan, sorry, I just do. As far as the painted lower sills, I have always felt they make the G35 Appear fatter top to bottom. If you don't believe it, get a pic of same size/angle/color with and without the painted lowers and compare them on the same page. Better yet, compare one with the factory painted sills to one with the black sills at the dealership. Look at them from the side, top to bottom. It looks fatter and heavier. I am not flaming those who like it, just stating how it appears to me. The upside is that it does seem to visually lower the car a little with the painted sills.

The new interior looks better in Graphite than in Beige, but I still like the older interior better overall, esp. if you get Graphite with wood package and no sport. I just don't like shiny reflective stuff(faux or real) on my interior. I also prefer the flat heat/volume controls on the '04. The rotary stuff on the '05 looks so 80's to me.

Only get the X if you truly need all-wheel drive. More weight, more cost, less performance (0-60), more to malfunction and probably higher insurance costs as well(I haven't checked but 4wd is often higher). That's my two bits. : )

I'm votin for the 04. I like the interior better than the "improved" 05.

The black sills look better too IMHO. They remind me of the A4. Painted sills or full body aero package look EXACTLY like a corolla "s". Check it out - very cheap looking. Also reminds me of the cheap Pontiac body cladding.

You can get a great deal on an 04 and also have 1.9% financing ( except on the G35x )

Great choice bro. I'd go for the '04 2 wheel drive for your locale.
Lots of room, comfort, class, and with the turbo, should hang with or surpass the STi.
Let us know what you decide.

Yeah. 2 wheel drive should be fine for you. Less weight and less mechanical bits to go wrong or service.

If you're going FI anyway, the slight increase in power in the '05 shouldn't be a factor. Have fun shopping!

Yeah, I have the same opinion about the dark sills underneath. My neighbors have an a4 with dark sills and I think it looks great. Wouldn't trade them at all. Didn't the last version of the 740 have the same thing too (at least in silver sometimes)?

You mean FI and a slightly upgrade suspension like the one that comes in the 05.

Re: Its time (getting rid of the STi for a G35S)

We don't know if they advanced the timing on 05's yet, that may have a negative impact on FI.

I'm iffy on the 05's, I do prefer the new interior but it's no big deal to me; it's hardly a change. Premium package 04's with the satin silver finish in some ways look sportier.

Don't know if the power increase is a real true power increase or just corrected numbers. This to me is the big questionable factor. It would be nice if there was more power, and that might be worth the wait.

Finally, the new rims don't do it for me, and the new styling is also a bit disappointing. I've yet to see a car that looks good with the 3D, stickout taillights. Also, the new front end looks too Honda Accordish. I wish they would've kept the less bubbly hood. The more aggressive front fascia is nice, but the car stock looks too high to have such an aggressive fascia. An 04 with the kit looks better for sure.

Painted sills are very nice, but my car is black so I don't care. Also, black cars don't really show the front fascia as well either.

If you can get a deal on an 04 I'd say go for it.
