How much are your miles worth?

How much is 15,000 miles worth to you? In other words, say your looking to buy a used 05 G35 sedan and find three with the same color, options and condition:
One with 30k miles, one with 45k miles and one with 60k miles - at what prices would they become a hard choice to make?

For me, I think it would something like $2000 for 15k miles.

So using this example something like $16k, $14k, and $12K would make it a tough choice for me to make.

But then, aren't the earlier miles of a cars life worth more....

15K miles isn't worth 2 grand... more like $800-1000 for cars with less than 60K miles, less for higher mileage cars.

my very general rule of thumb is usually $1000 for 10k miles before 50k, and $500 for every 10k miles after 50k

it's really not so much the price per mile, as it is how many are on the car as whole. cars typcically have problems with certain correct measures at different intervals (i.e. 30k mile service, 60k mile service, etc).

So a car with 15k miles will need new brakes in about 10k miles; whereas a car with 30 miles probably just got new brakes, and will not need them for another 20k miles.

Buying a used car with over 30k miles has typically gone through any problems that could arise.

One thing I've noticed shopping for my G, right now if you buy new for $35k and sell it three or four years later (assuming 10-15k miles per year) your paying about $5000 for 10k miles.

^ yeah the depreciation is really significant on this car.....you have to be in it for the long haul if you buy brand new.

I've had mine for 5 years 4 months now. The plan now is to keep it for at least another 4 years. Obviously can't guarantee that, since if it was stolen or wrecked I would need to spend the money on something else. But right now I'm trying to build up an emergency fund. And my next car fund portion of that is up to $14,000.
