Newbie with an Intelligent key question

Hi guys- first of all, thanks for all the great posts and info that made it really easy to choose my 05 G35X which I purchased a few weeks back!

When I bought my car from a friend, the one caveat was that he had lost his Intelligent key and that I was going to have to replace it with a new one which I promptly did by purchasing one on eBay for about $20. I took it to my local Nissan dealer this morning and after about 30 minutes or so, the technician told me that while he was unable to get the "Intelligent" part working to start the car, he was able to get the remote functions to work so I can now lock/unlock the car with the remote. (He didn't charge me anything though)

My question is as follows- Until he programmed it this morning, when I would get into the car, the car never actually even picked up on the key because no light ever turned on the dash (neither green nor red) and yet after he programmed it this morning it is a steady state red at all times.

Do you think it is the battery or do I need to get it programmed again by an Infiniti dealer? I was under the impression that Nissan was equipped to handle it and he sounded pretty confident when I walked in that I would not have a problem and yet he was unable to get it to work.

So I now have a steady state red light on the dash so the car clearly recognizes the key and a clicker that works, but I cannot actually turn the car on without the valet key.

Thanks in advance for any input!

stupid question but are you sure you picked up an Intellikey from ebay and not just the keyless entry fob? The solid red I-key dash light means no Ikey could be detected.

Does it look like this:

No, it is the correct key, it just isn't working.

I guess it can't detect the key properly. Thanks

I just bought my car last month and i had iKey issues too. I thought it was because it had lost its memory but all it needed was a battery. I will tell you that when the battery was low the outside buttons did nothing, but it still allowed the car to start. I think there may be some sort of way the key knew it was low and made the buttons useless. Also when the car would start using the detected fob the Green key symbol on the dash would flash for a short time indicating a low battery.

Since your locks work but your car does not start, i would think a bad battery is not the cause. I have seen on ebay that some auctions state remotes wont operate some cars and you must match the FCC ID or whatever. I have not verified this fact so take it with a grain of salt.

Good luck. AFAIK, Nissan should be able to reprogram your keys without issue.

Interesting. The FCC IC is 2111B-TN001. The ID is KBRTN001.

I have a 05 G35X- Anyone know if I have the correct fob?

i just checked mine and I have the same numbers you have for my 2005. Im guessing something is wrong with the ikey, was it used or is it new? Maybe try another dealer?

So do you only have one I-key? Or 2?

It looks like my key is broken. I can use all the functions with the key such as locking and unlocking the door by pressing the button next to the handle but it just won't start!

I only have 1 key but I am going to purchase another one tonight.

you should just sell this one to an 03-04 sedan owner who wants to change the shell out of his old key fob. Since they won be needing your internals anyway, I'm sure you're gonna be able to fetch the $20 and then buy youserlf an operating key

So how are you starting the car??

If you take the key out of the fob and put it in the ignition, does it start?

It didn't come with the key which fits inside- I ordered that separately. The car came with the valet key which works.

I don't have the small key which fits inside, I had to order that separately and it hasn't arrived yet. I start the car with the valet key which it came with.

So the slot in the i-key is currently empty.

Okay, so you have no key in the fob at all? That's the problem. The chip which allows the vehicle to start is inside the key. SO if you only have the fob only, nothing is going to happen.

You need the actual key for the fob, key to fit the iginition and then programmed to the car.

Give me 30 seconds and i'll run outside and confirm this

EDIT: NEVERMIND. I went outside and my car still starts with no key in the fob.
