Maxima is Right
Re: Maxima is Right
The maxy is nice but its Wrong Wheel Drive and it's not faster in the 1/4 mile by any stretch. If you go up to 100 be prepared to lose to your salesman friend. As for the non X...c ya.

Re: Maxima is Right
My Maxima pulls hard @ 100 but I have to admit to having a Cattman Y-pipe. So 100mph in 3rd (4AT) typically means I'm pulling hard. But by 4th gear, I'm pretty certain that the G35S 5AT should take me.
That said, I'm surprised you're not any quicker than 14.2 with those mods. Looks like you're suffering from the same low-trapitis that most Nissan automatics suffer from. (including myself) ;-)

Re: Maxima is Right
Take it from a two time Maxima SE owner...who used to love the maxima. They took the 2000-1 SE with awesome Koni Shocks/struts set up and softened it up like a boat on my wifes' 02...yes her car has 255 hp and runs 14.5/14.6 all day long at the track bone stock (CAI), but it's no where near the driving experience of my old 2000 Maxima b/c the new suspensions suck. Nissan must have gotten a lot of griping about the stiff rides so they loosened it all up. Now comes the 04 Maxima...IMHO the most hideous disfigured abortion on wheels and it's still front wheel drive and far too soft and heavy to even be exciting to drive. I have not seen any of the 04 maximas running in the 14s, and for the price Nissan is out of it's mind...As some one very correctly mentioned this car is aimed at cars above the G...and is technically more up scale than the G, but not the M or Q from infiniti. The Altima SE was 28.5 last year, but with the NAV and refined (read non cheesy plastic everywhere you look and touch) interior it's low 30s now which is too much if you ask me...they are pricing themselves back up and out of the bang for the buck territory they ruled for the last 5 years. The altima does fly...and for some reason seems to go better than the new (04+) Maxima even though it's rated at only 240-250 (depending on the year 02-04 and 05 now at 250), but for the Money, handling, interior and over all styling...the G is where it's at hands down. All said IMHO of course with no insults meant to anyone.

Re: Maxima is Right
Someone here said that the "Altima SeR is going to be as fast as G".Nissan Claims 2005 Altima is capable of 5.9 0 - 60 (manual) so i dont really understand why whould they build a car that competes with accords and camirys so fast and even faster than Maxima or even G.

Re: Maxima is Right
I have spoken to many Maxima owners and they were like the 2005 Altima is take place where the 2003 Maxima left. I know that the currenty Altima was doing 5.9 with is 5psd mt so the Se-R should be doing 5.7 with is 6spd mt. The Se-R is a limited edition car that is desgined to go against the Accord V6 coupe with the 6spd.
Also the Maxima/Altima, G35 problem is kinda of the same thing as the full loaded Accord and TSX. Many people are like why get a TSX for 29k when you can get a fully loaded V6 accord for the same price or a 4banger for cheaper.

Re: Maxima is Right
No question, both the X and C had superior handling to my Maxima. When I first got the car, curves made me flatout nervous even when compared with my prev car (99 Accord w/205-60-15s); the suspension seemed that much worse than the Accord. I'm less nervous with it now since I dumped the RE92s in favor of Falkens.
That said, I'm not trying to flame the X. Especially seeing as there's a good likelihood I'll be getting a 2k5 model (and hopefully, Infiniti will offer 18" wheels and a 6MT go with its 277hp/270lb-ft).
However, if I dont like the payments, I'll be quick to consider a loaded Alti 3.5SE 5MT w/Navi (WWD and all). Though the MSRP may be $30.5G (w/Navi and Leather Sport pkg), I doubt they'll actually sell them for any higher than $29G. (particularly because a similarly equipped Accord MSRPs for $28.5G)
As for the 04 Maxima not running 14s, one on the .Org ran mid-low 14s with auto tranny:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=311474
and I recall reading of a 5.5G Max owner who also ran similar times with a loaner 6G Max auto.
Peace.

Re: Maxima is Right
Wow...that's great news...the VQ3.5 strikes again...this motor really is a monster!
I was not, as I said twice, flaming the Maxima or the Altima...just giving my HO based on the facts...at the time...and as that Maxima.org thread goes on to say...and I figured this out with my G too...at 15000 miles these cars are different animals...and all those 15s I saw last summer when the car first really hit the track were all green motors...so now it all makes sense...well again, that's great news. Now everyone should know that no matter what their budget and flaovr, whether it be Altima, Max or G...they are getting a low 14 second 1/4 mi car...in a 4 door auto...which is just plain sick!!! :-)

Re: Maxima is Right
Yeah I think it's great they put this motor out there in the altima and get it to be maybe faster to 60 than the G. The girl who works for me got an 04 3.5se loaded altima for 19k! I was spinning when i heard that!
As for my trap times - had a 2.194 60' and a 6.052 330'. I dont know how much better It can get with all seasons. I could melt the tires and go on E I spose.
Others can chime in with similar setups but a 14.2 1320' is half a second off a stocker according to thest times which seem to vary from 14.6-14.8 for sedan 5at. Knocking 1/2 a second off an 1/4 with $775 bucks in mods is a dream. No one without major exhaust upgrades gets to 13's. I can think of 2-3 people in 5at sedan that can beat a 14.0 and they spend time and money much more liberally than I do so far.
The next 20 horseys cost a lot more and sound louder ...rather save it for a new house or a new CTS-V when they get the axle hop figured out. I hate diminishing returns.

Re: Maxima is Right
Sorry, I was referring to our trap speeds, not elapsed time (ET). You're ET's look good to me.

Re: Maxima is Right
yeah the six speed guys are the only ones approaching or exceeding 100 and they seem to do it stock too. Not sure how to improve other than the expensive exhaust/cats and headers. Twin turbos will help too. I'm sure without mods i'd have been around 95 or even 94? just guessing
