Re: i got spanked by an 2000 S4
he had a chip. that simple. s4 are notorious for the ability to cheaply coax a crap load of power more out of the stock setup with a turbo chip. not surprised. race a stock one and then that will be a fair comparison.
i personally have been very impressed with the g35's ability to keep up with a lot of cars i thought would spank me... the new m3's included.
i like it now, but hope this sucker lasts...

Re: i got spanked by an 2000 S4
i raced my friend's 2003 Audi S4 automatic from 20 to 100 3 times and i smoked him by atleast 2 cars every time. He was completely stock and an automatic so that really killed him. I could hear how long it took to shift as i went by. He was quite suprised on how quick the G Sedan is. Oh and did i mention i had 2 other people in the car with me, while the S4 was solo. The chip for the G is the TSC (Technosquare Chip or ECU)..
The reason why chips or NA cars cant get those gains is because there is no boost or anything to turn up like on a turbo or supercharged car to get the extra power from.. When upping the boost and timing on turbo'd and sc'd cars, it changes the fuel levels and lets the turbine or sc push out for power !! I hope this made sense , im a lil twisted =) Our cars cant do that, sucks! Martin

Re: i got spanked by an 2000 S4
Had an '01 S4 with AMS chip and Neuspeed G2 exhaust. These cars have twin low inertia turbos that spool quickly and provide a broad and tall torque spread from 1850rpm up to the mid 5s. The problem is they have an outdated rear suspension design, lose a lot of torque through the Torsen driveline, and weigh about 3800 lbs. I'll take my modded G sedan anyday. Maybe the guy had K04s from the RS4 on there. Those K04ed S4s are monsters on the freeway, but spending 10K$ to get into the high 12s is insane on an outdated platform, IMHO.

The 2.7 Biturbo motors in the S4 accept tuning very well. I've heard its very easy to get over 300hp out of that motor without much money. Plus the German cars are highway speed demons, I think 60mph and up is where they perform well, but I could be wrong.
Whoops...I guess what I said has already been said...

I looked at a 2002 S4 before getting my G35x. I loved the tuning options available for it (like everyone has mentioned), and I really like the styling of the B5 Audis. And the interior is extremely nice. But there were a few areas that turned me off:
1. Reliability - Having a 3-series before, I know the reliability on German cars is horrid, and the B5 Audi is no exception. Especially something with a turbo charger - it is hard to say that they always drove it correctly (cool down time, etc) and the B5s are known for needing the turbos to be replaced (expensive).
2. I didn't want an auto in the S4, and the shifter on the manual S4 I drove felt like it came right out of a semi. Extremely long throws, and not precise at all. It took a lot of fun out of driving the car.
Those are the main reasons, but they are fantastic cars, and I'm not surprised that a chipped one got you by a few car lengths from 60-120.

my last car was a civic... i know i know, but hey im only 20 and i bought my g when i was 19. but anyway i have no respect for most (most ) civics but my old civic was quiet around town but when i was in vtec it was a monster... it put down 265hp at the wheels when it was naturally assperated. in a 1988 gold hatchback that was around 2100lbs. i used to mess up the big dogs in a drag but i love the handling of the g. with about 9k into the car including the car itself(1.3k) i was doing 12.8-12.9's on falken aezinas that were worn pretty much into slicks. and s4's are wicked sleepers... i don't mess with those anymore. just thought i would stick up for the few nice civics out there.... and the real guys don't run nitrous (bottles are for babies) tune it dont just stap in a bottle.
