OEM Tire ????

I have seen several posts on here referring to Goodyear tires as the stock tires on their sedans, but mine came equipped with Bridgestone Turanzas. Which is better, or is there any difference at all?

Re: OEM Tire ????

Driving around on oily rubber bands is better than the Turanza EL42s, if you want my honest opinion. I'm looking to get rid of mine as soon as I can. They're downright deadly in the wet.

I live in the rainy State of Washington and my taurenza's? are doing fine on my G35X. I may upgrade when my tires need to be replaced but for now they are great.

Re: OEM Tire ????

I've seen many bipolar reviews of the Turanzas. My thought is that there are mutliple 'revisions' of the EL42. Go to tirerack.com, check out the tire and see what you think. half hate them and think they're deathtraps, half love them. That doesn't make sense to me unless we're all talking about different tires. Care to share the sidewall markings with me? I'm interested if there's more than just EL-42 in the 'model' number.

Re: OEM Tire ????

It depends on what your accustomed to/your point of comparison. If you driven American sedans or other cars with bad OEM tires, the EL42s or RSAs may seem ok. Remember, these are "touring" tires and they were never designed for high performance use. If you've driven cars with high perfomance or max. performance tires, the OEM tires will feel totally inadequate. My Audi A4 came with Goodyear RSAs OEM and I hated them and replaced them at under 10000 miles. When I found out my G35x was coming in with them, I had Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss waiting and immediately replaced them. Having the AWD helps make up for the poor performance, especially in wet, but the better tires still make a huge difference in feel and performance.

Re: OEM Tire ????

I have Goodyear GS-Ds that came on mine. High performance tire, with 180 treadwear. They are lasting well, after 10k of miles, still look new. And I haven't been nice on them either. Grip isn't as good as it use to be though in wet or dry. But they are better than the Turanzas since we haev those on our Altima, and they are scary.

Re: OEM Tire ????

I have the Turanzas on my G35x and they SUCK. My car handles well in the rain but it is the absolute worst ride on the highway. I have <200 miles on my car and it is in the dealership today getting the tires balanced and the wheels aligned because I am afraid to take my ride over 65mph because the car wobbles so much. If this doesn't work I'm going to insist the dealer replace my tires with the Goodyears.

Re: OEM Tire ????

The Turanza's give you a quieter and more comfortable ride than the GS-D's. The RS-A's are kind of a worst-of-all-things tire.

I autocrossed on my Turanza's, and the only thing I can say for them is they're predictable at the limit. It's just that the limit is rather low. I replaced mine with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's (not the same as the OEM GS-D's) in 225/55R17. What a world of difference. Every bit as quiet and comfortable on the highway as the Turanzas, and the GS-D3 lives up to it's "max performance summer tire" nature, wet or dry. Re: OEM Tire ????

Summer Tires mean they are not good [actually quite bad] in cold weather [below 45F] whether wet or dry. Snow use was never even in their vocabulary.

The tread compounds get hard and act glassy, losing a significant amount of friction. Called the plasticization point.

All season compounds are shifted down the temperature spectrum so they at least function in colder weather at the expense of losing 5-10% of peak grip in hot weather.
The worst effect of All Season is in WET BRAKING compared to a Summer Tire in the Ultra Performance category.

Easy to see a car's 60 mph to zero WET braking sky rocket from 10-25 feet depending on brand comparison just by going to A/S tires in the same size.

Tire friction gets worse with age mileage due to heat cycling changing the rubber. By 2 years or 20,000 miles every tire is quite different [harder and internally stressed] than brand new.
Actually 8,000 miles is the real pivot point where things start to go down hill fast.

Re: OEM Tire ????

I found the G-Y RSAs adequate on dry roads, barely adequate on wet roads, and poor in the snow. My friend's Turanzas were quieter, but slightly worse on dry, and better in snow. No experience with the GS-Ds.

I changed over to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S where there was a night/day difference.

Re: OEM Tire ????

Hey ryo any pics of the tires on a rim. Was thinking of doing this as well. I would guess the add'l friction of having a wider tire didn't seem to slow you down much on straight shots?

Re: OEM Tire ????

Mine came with Goodyear Eagles with a 260 treadwear rating and I couldnt be happier. I have over 15k miles and should be able to get another 15k out of them. I live in Phoenix, and typically the rubber almost melts off on tires with treadwear ratings below 200.

Re: OEM Tire ????

The biggest problem with my Turanzas is that they seem to be wearing like iron at 15K miles and I can't wait til they wear out so I can replace them with something that doesn't slide out every time I hit the throttle in a turn. (I have winter tires on other rims, so it's actually more like 8K miles on the Turanzas)

Re: OEM Tire ????

When I got the car, I made my dealer throw in the Infiniti sport wheels because I liked the look of them better than the std. 7 spoke wheels (not thinking about the tires). However, I was a bit concerned because they came with the Goodyear GSD sport tires with 180 treadwear vs. 260 treadwear for the Bridgestone Turanzas (plus I used to have the Turanzas on a previous car and loved them). I think both have Temp A/Traction A.

The dealer wouldn't switch them out, but after they scratched my car twice going through their car wash/detail dept., I demanded they give me something (after they sent it to the body shop to fix it of course, but that's another story ;-)...and I came up with a new set of tires when the original tires wear out - not a bad deal...$600+ worth of tires at n/c down the road (yes, I got a letter from the service mgr. just in case they forget when the time comes). So, now I'm not concerned when the GSDs wear out at 15k-20k mi. They've been great so far on dry pavement and in the rain; I'm sure they hug the road a bit better than the all-season Turanzas, and snow is definitely not an issue in S. Florida ;-). Maybe I can get those Michelin Pilot Sport tires as their replacement or I'll just stick with the GSDs.
