So in other words, no tint at all since the factory tint level is ~ 78% already.

Unless they make 90% tint, you are SOL

My girlfriends best friend actually PLOWED some clown in an SRT4 because he had blacked out his tails. She couldn't see his brake lights, he slammed on his brakes, PLOW. Totalled both cars. She's now suing him, and winning so far. Both her and the cops have pictures of the kids tail light. Yeah, as in singular, because the other one got smashed

If you don't want a ticket, don't go any lower than 45%. Windows are stock @ 78%. Add a 45% and you're at 35%. Add 40% and you're at 31%.

Yup, that's happened before. My friend works in an insurance company and they have had cases where people black out their taillights, or run those stupid clear tails with pink bulbs and people rear end them. The person who hit's them is savvy enough to call the cops and get the person ticketed and then they have a case for putting the fault on the person who modded their taillights because they thought it was cool.

So just a heads up. If you ever rear end someone with blacked out tails, call the cops and claim you didn't see them and then you have a case.

Yeah, that's one thing a lot of people overlook.

Most states are NET % values. Which means if they say 35% NET, that's the total tint value of film and glass.

So if your state is 35% NET, and you slap 35% film on, you are illegal.

The way the math works is like this

78% factory tint
35% film

0.78 x 0.35 = .273 or about 27% total VLT

So to reach 35% NET, you need to slap 45% film on your glass.

Keep in mind not all factory windows are 78%. I own a tint meter so i did my windows before tinting my car and came up with 78% on the meter. It can vary from 70-80%

I was wondering if there was any tint from the factory. In some lights my windows would look slightly tinted while at other times they looked perfectly clear.

Anyway, I didn't want mine too dark so I went with 35% 3M ColorGuard. I just picked it up about an hour ago, but so far it looks great. I have black interior and the color is exactly what I was looking for.
