Skyline Drv. Report- G35 dances in the twisties

Was near the skyline drive yesterday so decided to drive the whole Sklyline drive. Skyline drive runs through the Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, rising from sea level to around 3,400 feet.

Being Thursday, there was hardly any traffic. One section of the road (211 before the actual park) is a nice 3 lane, divided road, with all twisting sections. The Skyline drive itself is 2 lane.

It was beatiful to see how cleanly the G lays down the power. I was in 3'rd/4'th most of the way. Carving around the corners, the I could apply the power without disturbing the line. I did not go too fast - I had my little one in the back and there are animals around - but it is just beatiful too how the G behaves. Also makes you realize how much torque the G does have.

As an added bonus, we saw a black bear on the side of the road as well

I'm reminded of why I bought the G everytime I leave the house. I may live in the SF Bay Area, but I live up in the hills of Los Altos. It's far enough away from the rest of civilization to lack high-speed internet and sewage service.

Plenty of twisties up here =) It's always fun to hear the screeching tires at any time of day as someone drives by. Except for that moron that hit crashed his WWD Civic into our fence.

Did you go past Lexington-Buena Vista? My old law school stompin' grounds. I used to love driving up there.

Dude,
Not that familiar with the area.. I went 522S, 211 W, then Sky Line Drive past 33 all the way to 64. Finally took 64 W and 81 N to head back home to Maryland.

I am sure you had fun driving (and hiking/camping) in that area.

yes I miss the skyline and the blue ridge parkway. but now I have salt river and oak creek canyon. I spent 4 years in Norfolk, 4 at Auburn and 3 years in South Carolina. I have hiked and driven from New Hampshire all the way down at various times in the last 10 years.

took the salt river canyon home from Phoenix yesterday. love my GS-D3's in the rain. I was able to drive it as fast in the wet as i was in the dry.

Detours are fun.

You drove the whole length of Skyline Drive? Which entrance did you start on? Southbound? I've done it only once and it was quite a bit of cars out so it took me like half a day. There is defintely some good twisties up there. High speed twisties. I usually drive 3rd and 4th as well. 4th on the straights and 3rd when cornering. Once I tried to take a fast corner in 4th and my rear tires started giving out. What sucks is the drive back to Fairfax afterwards and the traffic that I hit along the way.
