For some reason my car tends to burn more oil with M1. I've been using Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 and have been really happy with it. I'm trying Amsoil next though.

I run castrol conventional.

I change my oil frequently and never jumped on that "gotta run synthetic oil" bandwagon.

Me too. Castrol has been proven to be one of the best through numerous used oil analysis tests. I run Castrol 5w30, change it every 3500-4000 miles, Mobil filter (M110, fits and is bigger), and check my oil level AT LEAST once a week.

I tried Castrol's fully synthetic oil last oil change. I may go with Amsoil next time around. This is the first I've also heard about a M1 shortage.

Costco always has cases of M1 for just shy of $30 for me.

Ive never seen it at costco, and all the walmarts around here are always empty. Its like they stock 10 jugs a month and if you are lucky to find some on the shelves, you should have bought a lottery ticket instead. Whats funny Ive been to other walmarts outside the chicagoland area they will have 100s of jugs stocked up. Its always been like this even before this shortage.

off-subject, but i told the guy at O'Reilly that i'm getting the longer m1-110 filer b/c i'm switching to a 5k interval oil, and i don't want the filter to get used up before my oil change... he told me he uses RP and a wix filter, but changes JUST the filter at 3k then the oil at 6k...
i was like, 'doens't the oil pour out when you remove the filter?"
he said no, you only lose what's in the filter....
is this a reasonable idea?

Have you ever changed your oil? You can fit ALOT of oil in that filter. Although I don't agree with your oil choice or your change intervals, you WILL lose a bit of oil on your filter change. I'd estimate a 1/4 quart but no more than 1/2 qt

Amsoil gives you the potential to run longer. But you have to have an engine that handle it. UOA is the only way to really determine if you can do this. I believe Amsoil gives recomendations on filter changes with their and aftermarket filters.

Advance is running a special - 5qt Mobil 1 plus a Mobil 1 filter for $29.99.

Heh, but they make you buy the quart bottles. Stock up my friends.

Good thru 03/25.
