Newbie Introduction!
Newbie Introduction!
Hi all! Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm about to purchase a 2004 Infiniti G35x and just wanted to get cozy around here. I've been a Maxima driver for years but, after driving a 2004 Maxima, didn't like it as much as I thought I would! It's about time to upgrade from my '99 Maxima (190,000 miles) and since my wife gets the NEW cars (she's got a 2008 Altima) I couldn't get a 2009 Max (which I love). So I thought to myself. . .hmmm. . .which Infinitis have the VQ35DE like the Maxima? Enter the G35!
Fell in love with a 2004 G35x. . .60,000 miles. . .NICE condition. $12,995. I took it out for a test drive and all of a sudden i'm in limp home mode! I have a feeling it was the brakes (felt a little scratchy), but after searching this forum all weekend I didn't hold it against her. Decided to let the dealer (a major Audi dealer in the area) check it out and get back to me. In the meantime, I found a Lexus dealer in the area who had one marked down from $16,000 to $14,777. Same car but 57,000 miles and a spoiler. I got them to match the other dealer's price (didn't tell them about the spoiled test drive) and after driving it for about a half hour i'm in love!
The deal now is that they're going to allow me to take it to my regular mechanic. . .35 miles away. . .tomorrow to have it checked out before I buy. I'm guessing it will be all good though. After the dealer's 2,000 mile/60 day warranty and whatever's left of Infiniti's power train warranty I'll be having that mechanic do the "heavy lifting" on the car (read: anything I don't have the time or tools to do), so I want to make sure he gives it his seal of approval.
I've read all the stickies and searched my heart out and found quite a bit of info around here. Thanks guys! It really helped me in my decision! Any tips or suggestions of anything I should tell my mechanic to look out for?
Thanks guys! Pictures will (of course) follow once she's home and in my driveway!

welcome James...
I looked at 2004 models in August last year. However, I went with a 2005 for 2 reasons:
1.) infiniti will not certify a car older than 4 years
2.) the 2005 model can play MP3 cds
now if you don't care about the certification and you don't care about playing MP3 cds or plan on replacing the radio, then you'll be okay.
I also got my car with 50k+ miles on it, and I already need to bring it in for it's 60k service (about $600 I think, in MD). So since you are coming up on that service anniversary, see if they can include that in the price for you.
otherwise, happy cruising...

Would look at a carfax.
Call an Infiniti dealer, give them the VIN and see what's been done if anything.
Pull the spark plugs (esp. no. 6 cyl) and look for oil pooling.
The valve covers are know to leak oil into the spark plug chamber.
If you see oil, take pics and make an appointment at your Infiniti dealer to have them replace the valve covers under the power train warranty.
Congrats!!!

That is not true. Mine had the CPO and was for sale at the dealer in late 2008, therefore when I purchased it in February 2009, it still was CPO. So I have my 6 year, 100k warranty as well
you must of caught a break/loop-hole, or the stealership is taking you for a ride. read this link: http://www.infinitiusa.com/pre-owned/overview.html
Thanks guys. Do I get anything left from the original power train warranty? It's got 57700 miles on it now.
Good news is that my mechanic gave it a good going through and was really impressed with it. Not a bad thing to say about it. We took it for a spin around our town and he said that if I was still up in the air about it he might want it for his wife. Good enough for me!
So I bought the car last night. Drives great! There are a few DEEP knicks in the spoiler though. . .that someone touched up with the wrong color touch up paint. I'm hoping when I have my guy detail it in the spring he can fix that. All I can figure is that the housewife that owned it before me had a bike rack on it or something.
Anyone in North Jersey have a suggestion on where to go for detailing? I have a guy I used about 4 years ago for my Maxima, but i'm not sure if he's still around.
