Your right on par. You should get better milage as your car gets more mature. Also, most ppl getting 17 are 50/50 city/highway.

With only 1,300mi. on my 5AT Sedan, I've been averaging about 15 mpg or so in the city and on an all-highway business trip a few weeks ago, I got 22 mpg. I almost always use the MM mode and I typically save 5th gear for when I'm doing 55 mph or higher. After reading a few other posts about this, I may try shifting into 5th gear at about 45 mph and run around in the city in 5th gear as much as I can to see if this improves my gas mileage. Also, I do have to admit that that my gas mileage is negatively affected by a bit of overly-aggresive WOT now and then...the sound of the Z-tube/K&N filter can be quite addictive!!! ;-)...it's not easy to slow down ;-).
I bet if I wasn't so aggresive and I drove around in the Automatic mode that my gas mileage would be on par with mfgr. estimates of 17-18 mpg. in the city (note - city driving in much of S. Florida is a bit different than city driving in a major city like L.A., Boston, or New York as we tend to drive around at 40-45+ mph (in 4th or 5th gears) in less traffic, so it's more like a mix of city & highway driving).
I'm going on another 3-hour business trip this week so I'll see what kind of highway mileage I get this time; I expect about 22-23 mpg. I am encouraged when I read that my mileage should improve over time.

When I went on a 450 mile roundtrip to the beach and back I got 27mpg. Usual overall avg. is more like 21-23 depending on where and how I drive. I am not dissatisfied, as my 1994 3.0 liter Taurus only gets 22-23mpg and has 100hp. less than the G and is nowhere near as fun to drive! Better seats though. : (
21-22 city. 25~ highway short highway cruise.

I have a new 04 G35 6MT sedan [less than 1000 miles on it] and I do a mix of highway and city driving. So far, I've been getting an average of about 22 MPG.

Just came back from trip to LA. Car has 7000 miles.
Going down - cruise control at 78. Two people in the car, bunch of bags, two 90lbs monitors in the trunk, was averaging 24-25mpg.
Coming back up 1 person in the car and half the cargo. How fast I was going, well let's put it this way, cruise control wouldn't turn on on my minimal cruising speed which sometimes would double the speedlimit on I-5. Got about 21-22mpg.
My average driving in SF (hills, lights +50% freeways with traffic) gets me around 17mpg. I have definately seen some major improvemnts after mileage hit 5k.
Still it feels like there's room for leaning out the mixture. Feels like it is running pigrich, especially below 3k rpm.

Only yesterday, the gas light came on with just 267 miles on the tripmeter. With some quick math I was like "Damn... 267 miles divided by 20 gallons is only 13.5 mpg... that sucks!" But then I remember the reserve, I filled up with 15.5 gallons, 17.2mpg... all city with a lead foot most of the time. I'm satisfied with this considering the performance of the VQ.

At 7000 miles my average of majority city miles is 17-20mpg. The more highway the higher the average. The trick is to shift up as soon as possible. For example upshift around 2000-2200rpm at most.

Checked my mileage when the car was new and I was getting about 18mpg and I just checked it again recently at 19K miles I am still getting the same mileage.. Contrary to popular belief around here I haven't noticed any significant improvement in mileage.
This car is obviously tuned for power ... can't get something for nothing

Andyl,
That's amazing mileage. I can't touch it with my G35X. I've tried both manumatic and drive but average about 20 mpg when I baby it. How do you keep track of mpg?

Andyl,
Addition to your observation of gas mileage with heavy foot.
In my personal experience the harder you drive your car in the first 5k miles the faster mileage would get close to EPA numbers.
I was very frustrated with my mileage in the first 3k miles. And I was babying it trying to save gas. At certain point I stopped caring about it and started stomping it quite often. Now with 7k miles on the car I can see 300-310 miles till the light comes on with 60% city driving. And those hills in SF love gas.
