Re: Glove box rattle

Thanks again everyone for replying - especially gordgee for the picture!! - that really helped to show me what the dealer did to fix your rattle problem.

Tonight, I placed more foam inserts into the exact areas that the dealer placed the rubber bumpers - hopefully tomorrow morning I will not notice anymore rattles from the glove box area...

Re: Glove box rattle

This is good stuff here. The black stripping I used for the airbox was leftover and it was the perfect fit in between the windshield and the dash. I left the backing on it since it fits snug and now it wont make a mess.

Also thought about some other reason I rattle over uneven stuff and went ahead and put a couple rubber stoppers like gord. I put a cork bumper under the armrest so the armrest closes more snug.

Now when going over some pretty uneven pavement the thing is tight. Still have some headliner or pillar rattle occasionally but at least its much better. It takes a good bit to shake her up now.

Re: Glove box rattle

Finally, someone with the same problem. Comes from around the defrost vent on the passenger side. When it rattles, if I put my hand up there and press...the rattle will go away. I've tried stuffing everything in there, but I haven't done what you suggested. What size weather stripping did you use? I have an 04 and it has some sort of very thin black cloth-like substance between the window and the dash - did you just leave that in place and work around it?

I can't wait to give your advice a try....the dealer has been useless on this one.

I don't bag too hard on the dealer guys with rattles like these, we drive the car every day, they test it for maybe 10 minutes. You are referring to the defrost vent by the windshield, right?

Re: Glove box rattle

Hi all,

Sorry for the long delay in responding but I thought I would update everyone with regards to the glove box rattle for which I started this thread...

I finally figured out how to stop that damn rattle - what I needed to do was stuff the driver's manual in its leather cover into the upper compartment above the glove box. This seems to have tightened this area and I have not heard the rattle anymore.

But now I have a new problem - this fix seems to have caused a rattle in the center console area near the automatic shift ****. Any ideas on how to get rid of this rattle now???

Thanks,

Re: Glove box rattle

philching and others, just had dealer remove lower center consol yesterday and add foam around forward attach points and especially behind/between plastic silver trim at 5 AT's shift lever. this has SOLVED problem I've been chasing & cursing for months. Spent 10 minutes first at dealer's location driving around by myself to reproduce the "creaks" and then had dealer's technician come with me in passenger seat as I drove over same speed bumps & turned same corners till he confirmed location of plastic "creak" to fix. It is great to have a quiet ride again.
