Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
Hey guys, was flipping through an old Motor Trend magazine, March, 2004 edition, and on Page 154 the "Road Test Results" table showed the following for our cars:
'03 G35 Sedan 5AT (tested 1/2003) posted 0-60 MPH in 6.5 sec, 1/4 mile 14.7 sec@ 97.1 MPH, and 60-0 MPH braking@ 114 ft.
'03 G35 Sedan 6MT (tested 8/2003) posted 0-60 MPH in 5.8 sec, 1/4 mile 14.3 sec@100.3 MPH, and 60-0 MPH braking@ 110ft
'03 G35 Coupe 6MT (tested 1/2003) posted 0-60 MPH in 5.8 sec, 1/4 mile 14.2 sec@99.4 MPH, and 60-0 MPH braking@ 112 ft.
I know the results will vary, but the 6MT Sedan in this comparison actually outperformed the Coupe, for the most part.
Just goes to show they are not that far apart. As Road & Track said, "the only real question is do you want 2 seats and 2 doors (the Z), 4 seats and 2 doors (the Coupe), or 4 seats and 4 doors (the sedan)"

Re: Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
Not that it really matters 'on the street' but I think C&D mag. had a 0-60 time of 6.2 sec. for the 5AT Sedan, 0.3 sec. better than MT's test...it's funny how the 2 mags road tests are always just slightly different from each other ;-).
I haven't measured my 0-60 mph time yet; all I know is that this car is a pretty fast sports sedan and quicker than most competitors ;-)
btw - I also remember from those C&D and MT articles that the exceptional braking of the G35 was the best in its class and they commented that it comes very close to that of a Porsche (which I think they said was 60-0 in 109 ft.)...got to like 60-0 in 114 ft. for the G35 5AT Sedan and even less for the 6MT and Coupe!

Re: Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
Yup, it's pretty well known and documented that the difference between the 6MT coupe and sedan is not as large as Infiniti would like us to believe. Once again, marketing plays a very big factor in that decision.

Re: Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
I don't recall Infiniti trying to get anyone to believe that the Coupe is faster than the Sedan... the Coupe does have 20 more horsepower but it's also a bit heavier....
All in all I'd still rather have the coupe... only bought the sedan because I needed the 4 doors... but alas I recently bought a minivan... know of anyone who would like to trade a coupe for a sedan? I've been thinking of trading it in for a coupe but I am all out of petroleum jelly and I really need the lubrication for when I get it up the you know where on my trade in![Smilie](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Re: Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
Bone stock my sedan dyno'd 225 at the wheels. If I use the 17% drivetrain loss, which I think that we all accept as the number for our car based on test data, that puts me at 271 at the crank. Combine that with the weight diff and whola, same numbers. So unless my car is an anomaly on the strong side I do believe the 6mt is underrated a little. I think others have seen similar results.

Re: Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
My sedan with the Crawford plenum measured 217 at the wheels which corresponds to roughly 260 at the crank. I think the combination of (1) more aggressive timing and (2) better exhaust do indeed give the coupe 20 more HP but after a few mods they even out.

Re: Motor Trend Sedan vs. Coupe times
Yeah we're only talking about an 8 horse diff...could be car to car, dyno to dyno, or day to day variability.
