Bad news with the new G

So I bought my 06-x about 3 weeks ago and immediately noticed that the AC belt was missing. Finally had a chance to get it into the shop and they are telling me the car has had some front end work and that the belt was probably never put back on.

Needless to say im not happy that the car was wrecked and it didnt show up on the Carfax. Additionally who knows how bad it was wrecked?! Other than the belt the car runs very good and looks normal at least and the dealer said it wouldnt affect my warranty.

Im getting the seller to pay for the belt work but other than that any recommendations?

How come you didn't bring the car in to a full inspection before buying? Carfax isn't 100% accurate.

Yea I'm beginning to think that Carfax is nothing more than clever marketing. My friends that work in the auto industry have told me that they aren't very reliable and that they only show major work that was submitted to an insurance company. I also think there is a $ amount threshold that hits the report - but that might not be true.

Find out what it is worth. File a small claims suit for the difference in value vs. what you paid, based on him not disclosing the accident.

I can tell you this now that the z is gone. I wrecked the Z and had $6500 worth of damage. and it didn't show up on the carfax report

should have looked at the engine bay before signing over that check. should have had a car nut friend go with you to look at the car. i always tell my siblings, especially the sisters, if they are looking to buy a used car to call me and i'll go with them. 10 out of 10 times I could point to them that the car has had body work to fix some incurred damage or that the engine isn't running properly. you got to live and learn. better luck next time.

I doubt it would be 10/10

8/10 the car has been fixed 100% perfectly and most people would never know. I've looked at countless cars that have no apparent signs of damage but the file on the car says it was totaled.

In the states you can go to the license bureau and get the full history of the car? You can in Canada, and it's pretty rare a damaged car slips under that.

this is very basic: Rule #1 when used-car buying - you should ALWAYS have a used vehicle independently inspected at a trusted source prior to purchase. the only exception is if money is not an issue and anything could be fixed (but then why buy used), or if you're buying an old GM boat for a demolition derby. carfax is a piece of paper that only displays info that someone has entered. it will not indicate work done "off-line" that insurance never sees.

Looks like i got lucky, the dealer exagerrated a bit. Basically it looks like maybe the car was run up on a curb hard so they did some repainting around/under the front bumper and they replaced some of the screws to the undercarrige cover with aftermarket ones. No major damage and everything looks good. Thank god... I have had really bad luck with cars in the past. I also got the Seller to pay the belt replacement cost.

For all we know majority of used cars could be accident cars. Who really knows the previous owners if they got into accidents and just payed out of their own pockets to fixed.

nice bohar.... see how much it costs to get infiniti to certify it, they won't certify a car that has been in accident, so at least you'll know. they probably have the records from all infiniti dealerships across the globe.
