Why so many threads about prices?

Every time I come on here there is a new "is this a good deal" "did I get a good shake on this car" "is 12,000 too much" thread.

WHY!!! Look around on auto trader and you'll know if you got a good deal.

The same answers are in every thread too

Just because it's on Autotrader doesn't mean it's a good deal. I know a dealership asking for 26 grand for decently used 2005 g35 coupe on Autotrader. I could buy a 2007 G35 Sedan with the new engine and interior for that much

I'm not saying autotrader has the deals but it does give you a pretty big assortment of cars to compare the one being bought.

Nobody does any research anymore, they just want others to do it for them?? You learn less this way.

That Coupe is an anomaly. You don't go to Autotrader and look for the most expensive car to base your analysis on. Just because one dealer has no idea what his car is worth doesn't mean Autotrader is not a very good tool to get pricing estimates.

4DGS, I've wondered the same thing. Edmunds.com, KBB.com, and NADAGuides.com all have pricing tools, and Cars.com and Autotrader.com show you actual cars for sale. People are lazy and would rather ask than spend any time doing some actual work.

It sucks for these guys too because they buy the car and totally miss common problems in the car! I researched the G 6 months before I even started looking for the right car and not once did I ask questions. (they were all answered by simple searches and routing around)

Me too. I read numerous articles about the G35 starting several years ago. At that time I wanted one (was replacing a Maxima), but wasn't in a place to buy what I wanted (2005+ G35x). Once I was ready to get one, I read some more, and probably looked at 200+ cars online (I've got 60 or so AutoCheck VIN reports saved). This was a big purchase, so I wanted to know not only what I was getting, but what I wasn't getting.

Don't be too harsh with these newbies... you don't invest 15K every week. This is a major investment for most of the people and people tend to take suggestions. This is a G35 community and newbies think that we members are very knowledgeable about these cars. Its just an advice, if you are so busy then just don't reply. Our advice is very valuable for them.

+1... sure they could research the car and find prices on their own, but if they did that then we wouldn't have threads about bashing noobies.. we would feel as if no one wanted our help, im glad theres noobies around asking us for every little detail that google can answer. Sigh... we were all noobs at one point.. they will grow and learn, and soon surpass us.

Car is the second biggest purchase most people make so it is somewhat a big deal. Who better to ask than a forum/community full of G owners. Cars do depreciate with time so values change periodically.

I have no problem with newbies. In fact I don't have much problem with the 'is this a good price' threads posted BEFORE they bought the car. I do have a big problem with the post-purchase 'is this a good price' threads. It's so lame. If you cared so much you would have checked before you got the car, now you are just asking 'did I get raped?'.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I think most here feel this way.

You hit the nail on the head -- ADVICE. If you want advice, come on in. If you want us to tell you if you got raped, no, I'm not interested in that. What are you gonna do if we say 'yes'?

Autotrader.com is better. Many more options to filter what you want and/or don't want. I had to wade through all the Coupes and non-AWD Sedans when I looked for my X because I couldn't select # of doors or drive type. Their "Optional Search Words" is a joke. And it seemed Cars.com had far more cars listed that were no longer available but hadn't been removed.

Who cares, everyone is lazy these days. Everyone does this if not with car prices with something else they wont search for.

I've always been a strong proponent of: if you have the money for it, you've checked standard market price, and you think you're getting a good deal, then you're getting a good deal. Asking around on a forum is EXTREMELY unreliable due to the varying prices throughout the US as well as condition of the car.

I'll tell you all right now that I purchased my 2004 G35X in February with 46k and CPO for $17,500 out the door. Most will say that's more than what someone else paid but to me, I live in an area where cars cost a little bit more plus the car is in 10/10 shape interior, exterior, everything. Not one scratch, dent, paint issue, interior cracks/squeaking, NOTHING. So to me, I'd rather pay $17,500 out the door to get it just the way I want and that was satisfying to me. I could really care less if someone else got the same vehicle for $15,000. That's just my personal opinion though..
