Took my car in for grinding in 5th gear, airbag light blinking, driver window thunk and gas tank level reading off.
Confirmed today that I am getting a new tranny (from Ohio???!!!!) AND CLUTCH! Woo-hoo. My second new tranny in 36k miles.
Now on the flip side, I have 36k miles on my car, only 34k to go till my powertrain runs out. What is the deal with these trannies, has Nissan finally fixed the cause? I plan to put in a thicker tranny fluid the DAY that my warranty runs out to protect those synchros.
How many other G's have had two trannies replaced? I know several Z's, but very few G's.

Hey, what did they say about the Gas Mileage being way off for what's left in the tank...I have noticed that since day one, but b/c I am always doing some performance mod when I go in, I always forget to bring it up! ;-)
Good luck on the Tranny issue!

I don't have Nav, so it is simply my gas gage doesn't read full when full. It was a bad level sending unit.

That's exactly what I am talking about...the NAV only tells you, through 5 different button pressings...how many miles till empty...which, in this car, is 100% off.
For some stupid reason, Nissan went away from the keep it simple stupid way of doing all of thie Trip info like on my wife's 02 maxima...it's all right on the steering wheel and the display info is right on the dash in front of you...
Anyway, I think my car suffers from that bad sending unit too.
Thanks

"I know several Z's, but very few G's."
I have had my 6MT tranny replaced twice. They also did the clutch update at the 2nd tranny replacement. This now third (delivered tranny, replacement #1 and replacement #2) tranny seems to be doing just fine.

I had my MT replaced at 5.5K. Now at 9.9K I'm starting to get the grind when I tach out in 2nd or 3rd and skip to 6th. And I discovered yesterday that if I redline in 5th and go to grab 6th it is was extreamly difficult to go into 6th and it ground it's way in really bad, twice back to back. Same action, 5th to 6th in normal driving is just that, normal. I don't think it's a question of if, but when I'll be getting tranny number two.
Makes me think about bailing on the car for something else. I'll be darned if I'll get into paying for a new tranny out of my pocket when the warranty runs out.

I would appreciate it if those of you who are having 6MT trannies replaced would report the part number of the replacement trannie on this forum. Many months ago, I heard that Infiniti was up to the 8th revision of the transmission, and had finally gotten it right.
I have a G35s with the AT now and want to change to a 6MT in 2005, but I'll be damned if I will change until I am sure that Infiniti has this problem fixed.
This is not unusual in car companies. I used to have an 86 Porsche 944 turbo. In 1988, I had the throwout bearing replaced under warranty and the dealer asked if I wanted to upgrade the clutch disk at my cost to the latest part. The latest part was in its 19th revision only three years after the car was introduced.

I have known several people who owned Porsche's at that time, and they practically had to own a repair shop to keep them running!

I have been hearing about seemingly numerous people getting their trans replaced. I find it completely baffling. I have kept several cars past the 250k mark and have never replaced a trans....

WWW,
The problem lies with the synchros. They are improperly designed for the application we use them in. It is not our driving doing this. I have owned numerous Nissans and beat the living daylights out of them for years with no problems. Now, I have had no other problems than 2nd or 5th grinding. I personally think the viscosity is too low for summer time use on this tranny and will upgrade my tranny fluid when my warranty runs out.
As for the new clutch, I love it. It grabs much quicker than the previous one did NEW. 5th gear also feels closer. I missed third and went to 5th where third should have been. I noticed this a couple times last night. I will get the part numbers of the last two trannies at lunch today.
I love the new clutch, it grabs so quick I can get the wheels to spin(not just chirp) BEFORE VDC kicks in. Awesome
