Oil drain valve
Three years later and no issues (I do about 3 or 4 changes per year). It eliminates the mess and I like the convenience of not having to pry/cut off the plug gasket. The downside is it does take longer for the oil to drain because the opening is small. Also, no worries about it accidentally opening.
I don't think the factory drain plug is magnetic.

Thanks for all the info folks. I'm going to order one this week, and I'll report back on how I like it. I've got another 3000 miles before the next oil change, so it'll take some time to get it on.
You don't need a magnetic drain plug to catch the metal shavings, etc... get an oil filter magnet instead. The biggest difference is you won't see how much you caught with the magnet.
I was going to order, but bookmarked the site instead. I just put Amsoil in a few weeks ago, so I've got a good 7200 miles before the next oil change. I'll get one then. But thanks for the link.

Do you go 10,000 miles on your oil? I'm running Castrol Syntec and was planning to change every 5000. I drive a lot for my job ~ 2000 miles a month. Think I could stretch the changes to 7500 miles?
I was planning on 7500 per change, roughly twice a year (I'm about 1100 a month in mileage). I thought that was pretty conservative considering some here have talked about 10-15K between changes when running synthetic. I don't want to stretch it even to 10K. I figured the oil change costs about $50 for oil/filter, so $100 a year. That's about the same price as the 4 oil changes I'd need if I was using dino oil even with my conservative change rate. But I then get the benefit of synthetic.
