I just got off the phone with my local Nissan dealer regarding some warranty work I need to have done (wheel bearing and a good look over the car). They said that they can't do Infiniti warranty work and I would have to take it to an Infiniti dealer. They're from the same company!! Problem is that the closest on is at least 1 1/2 hours away! I'm assuming that the service would take about 2 hours to complete, so that means I've got 5 hours of my day locked up in this. Question is: has anyone else had this kind of thing happen? Should I spend 5 hours of my day running around or should I just change it myself? Is the wheel bearing change as easy as it looks? I guess I'm just looking for some input and suggestions. Thanks.

 

I don't know anything regarding that fix, however I ran into the same thing - they can't do warranty work - in my case it saved me well over $1000 to go to an infiniti dealer.

 

Same with parts. Infiniti parts are just nissan parts with nissan part numbers, but the nissan parts departments won't/can't order or lookup parts for our cars.

I wish we didn't have silly luxury brands.. it's nothing but trouble.

 

make you want to rip off the Infiniti emblem off, put the Nissan ones on and take it to the dealer like "what!? it's a Nissan ... SEE! Look at the badges."

 

Its corporate policy, all Infiniti warranty work has to be done through Infiniti even though its technically a Nissan. You can take an Infiniti to Nissan for maintanence work however.

 

I just got off the phone with Infiniti Consumer Affairs. They said the best they can do is have roadside assistance tow it to the dealership for me, then they would tow it back when its completed ... IF i call this particular person directly and want to be out of a car for the day. They claim "they have a completely different system than Nissan". Really! That's the excuse! They aslo claimed a bearing costs about $400 to replace. Now it's come down to money out of pocket vs. pain in the a$$ fee.

 

they should be able to at least give you a loaner. see if they'll do that, and then take it back the next weekend.

 

Might be made by the same people but I see their point. The Nissan dealer has never sold that model car so why should they have to warranty it.

It doesn't matter about the parts being the same.
They have to get paid for the work & corporate won't do it.

 

your location should have been considered when you bought the G. if you knew that the closest dealer was 1.5hrs away that should have been weighed in your decision. (if a closer dealer has recently closed down then what can you do?) this is Nissan/Infiniti policy. everyone has to deal with it.

 

Just do this. My Infiniti dealership is 45-60 mins away so I'm dropping my car off and getting a loaner. It's kind of a PITA, but it's still cheaper and easier than paying for/doing the work myself. Shouldn't cost you anything either except for the gas you burn driving back and forth.

 

they're different departments just like going to buy someething at banana republic and want to return it at an old navy or gap store.

More than likely if you go to Infiniti they won't start your car right away. They will give you a loaner and call you when your car is done.

I've never had the work started immediately on any car i've done work on. It's always drop off in the AM and get my phone call around 1-2PM saying pick up tomorrow or pick up after 4PM or something like that.

 

some dealers you can drop off the car the night before. but just get a list of the local guys. Infiniti of Massapequa offers free pick up for some clients who don't live close. Actually, I go sometimes myself for my personal VIP's
