I had this problem and unfortunately it was the ac condenser that got hit by a rock or something and was destroyed. The dealer replaced the condenser. However..it could be that it just needs recharging as the freon or whatever it is ran out.

Have an A/C shop do a checkup on it. Might just need a recharge.

hopefully you just need a recharge.....if not....and you have a leak in the AC lines or condenser.......then the cost will go up! have them do a full checkup!

More than likely you will need a recharge, biut if you do that means you have a leak. So if you just have it refilled, it will leak out again. You might want to invest in having them search for and find the leak before they pull a vac and refill.

Of course, could also be some of the misc relays and cutoffs that failed

Do you have a Z-tube? I know I have plenty of clearance with mine on, but many have rubbing issues against the AC line under the intake tube.

if its blowing cold EVER, either its low on freon or the belt that runs the a/c compressor is slipping.. those are pretty much your only options and both should be cheap fixes

Just had mine recharged and also had a couple gaskets around the compressor that had gone south and needed to be replaced. Ice cold now, at least when my car isn't nearly overheating (that's a separate issue - engine fans weren't working!).

Does anyone know how much it cost to get the a/c compressor replaced on an 03 sedan? I took it by a local shop because my a/c completely stopped working and they found the outer (round) part of my clutch/compressor laying in my splash shield under the hood and it appeared that it "locked" up and basically broke the bolt off. Has anyone else had any problems like this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

My compressor has always been loud (whir/growl) in our 03 sedan. Two years ago it got really LOUD and I had it replaced for $600. This was just the cost of the part - I was out of warrantee and negotiated the labor away as "goodwill".

Starting this summer, the AC will occasionally blow hot air – cold, then hot, then cold. Refrigerant level seems to be OK but the system pressure spikes unusually high sometimes. An independent shop and the dealer both tell me the compressor is failing. The independent wanted to replace the expansion valve as well for a grand total of $2,493 (HA!). The dealer ONLY wanted $1,300 for parts and labor.

Weighing the frequency of failure vs. the cost of repair, we’ll drive it around hot for the summer.
