race pipe for my G

Im thinking about putting race pipe in my car at some point in time... but they arent street legal. is it because of the noise? smog test? why wouldnt they be street legal.

First thing, I highly recommend that you register on www.my350z.com and run a search in the engine forum their and search the word "rasp". Make sure your not caught off guard by the noise test pipes tend to make. Many a classified or ebay ad for them used, come from owners that pulled them off the car for a reason. Be informed.

Federal E.P.A. emission control laws that apply in all 50 states require that you keep your oem cats on. You can only replace them with other cats if you can prove the oem one's were damaged or failed. So, racepipes are illegal. Of course what you do is up to you, I have high flow cats as a example.

Of course one can alway's go to the governments E.P.A. site and read the letter of the law for themselves.
