Question lagging trans?

I have a 05 sedan and when the trans is in the normal "D" mode if I step on the gas hard to pass someone on the highway and the trans drops down a gear. This is all normal. But when I let off the gas to get back to a normal speed maybe 2 to 4 seconds the trans is still in that gear it never up shifted? so I the trans wont up-shift with my foot off the gas? I have never felt this in any other car? Why does it hold the gears so long?

sounds normal...my 05 will do the same. If i give it a moderate amount of gas and let off right away before it shifts it will hold the RPMs for a few seconds than shift. I think the TCM just gets confused.

My '04 does this too...drives me nuts, but I think it's normal. Not a comfortable feeling though, is it? That's why I drive manumatic mostly now.

It's actually a good feature. The tranny ECU sees you driving aggressively and is holding the gears longer to make sure you're not going to get back on the gas again. This is an ideal setup for when you're cruising around winding turns where having the tranny upshift midway thru the turn could be detrimental to performance and possibly a loss of control. Nothing is more annoying than having a tranny upshift when you don't want it to.

My '06 does this too.

I find it does it more often when i drive aggressively. When it's raining or snowing and i drive like a pansy it doesn't do it

ok cool thanks guys for all the responses. I figured it was for aggressive driving but what sucks is when i get back on the gas it is at such a high rpm it almost bucks. Like if you have a manual and are around 5000rpm and then just hit the gas hard it will kind of bucks. It sucks for daily driving but o'well hahaha . thanks again.

No kidding, for real? How exactly do you know that is the intent of the design? Just curious.

Yup, mine does this too. Makes sense for the aggresive driving, to bad they don't have a switch for different driving/shifting modes. Makes me wish I had the 6mt some times.

Sure it does... drive the car in manual mode. Then you have a tad more control.
