I know on Nissan/Infiniti Standard Transmissions; it's common for the whinning sound to be sometimes associated to the Throw Out Bearing.
Good luck.

I've never heard anybody have a similar issue, modified or stock.

Is your transmission slipping at all? How is the fluid level?

I did have a idler pulley go out (AC side) but that was relatively quick and destroyed the belt. That was a while ago and you could hear the whine of the belts, but belts are unmistakable.

Hub, driveshafts, etc can make weird sounds at given RPMs and speeds that are not always a constant. Don't be so quick to rule them out.

this sound happens the second i get into the throttle and goes away the second i get out of the throttle. the sound is directly tied to me getting into the throttle for sure. fluid levels and color are great also they don't smell "burned" or anything. no transmission slip at all. it will launch off quickly with wheelspin. i even did a little power brake today just to see.. i built the revs up and at about 2,200 rpm the back tires broke loose and started spinning... everything operates as it should.. i just get this damn whining sound that sounds like a blower.. if you have ever ridden in an 03-04 Mustang Cobra.. it's that type of sound

I just called the only Infiniti dealer in my town (Wichita, KS) and was quoted $450 for a transmission flush. Or I could do the 90,000 mile service for $1,200. WTF It's a damn Infiniti not a Rolls Royce!

Most local shops will do a transmission flush for around 90-100. Don't take it to infiniti.

If you put the car in neutral and free rev is the sound still present? Does the sound appear to be coming from underneath the car or from the front of the engine?

I hear that noise in mine too, it's very subtle though.

It's been like that since I've had it (bought it with 17K, now I got around 65K).

Since I bought it certified/from Infitnity/with extended warranty, I never really worried about it cuz if anything bad were to happen, I would just take it to the dealership, they're great about any problems (I'm sure it has something to do with me having dropped like 2K on the extended warranty).

Anyways my noise is almost like a V2 AEM intake that my buddy had in his car a looooong time ago... Sounds nice lol

Well an update on this.. It does not make the noise in neutral. I had my wife drive the car and i drove beside in the chase car. I believe the sound is coming from the back half of the car. at this point I am thinking it is some sort of exhaust leak. I am going to try riding in the backseat next. It could also be the rear end but im thinking since the problem literally started overnight it is most likely exhaust. the rear end doesn't leak or anything and the fluid wouldn't just go bad overnight.

I Have that sound too; but mine seems like the intake. As for your exhaust, check the muffler; I think I remember something about a variable flow exhaust on our cars. I could be completely wrong though. GL

Have you tried replacing the PCV valve? Also, you might want to make sure that the hose that attaches the PCV valve on the pass side valve cover to the engine is on securely on both ends.

Doesn't that alone mean to focus on parts that move when you do? Meaning the problem won't be in the exhaust, the PCV, etc.

I have that noise also. I've also been trying to figure it out. I haven't checked the rpm's when it happens, but I can tell you it starts when I'm over 75mph. It happens when I get on the gas pedal at a certain point then gets quieter as I press it past that point. It's weird. I had the feeling like it was coming through the speakers, like their is a voltage issue or something. I'll keep looking around, and keep you posted, and please do the same. It annoys the hell out of me.

Possible Solution

This might be a little late looking at when the posts were posted, but I found this online, and will try it with mine. http://www.justanswer.com/questions/...a-se-4x4-63-00
