Oil Change for a Newbie

Hi,

I just got a 2006 G35x a couple of months ago. It's due for its first oil change. Should I take it to a dealership or a Valvoline? Also, what oil should I use? Thanks for any input.

L.S.

Do it yourself, cheaper than the dealer and you can put a higher quality oil in. AND search!

dealership should only charge you about $50. but most of them offer the first oil change for free when you buy a new car. inquire about it... but in any event, if you do take it in, I recommend taking it back to the infiniti dealership

I'd go dealer over any quick lube place. I had friends that worked in such places and heard many stories that make me not want to go there.

My sister once went against my advice, she came home and her '05 maxima leaked all the oil it had all over the driveway. Whoever did the oil change only put the pan plug in finger tight. It was holding by 2-3 threads when i went under the car to see where the oil leaked from.

another alternative is to establish (if not already done) a relationship with a trusted independent shop that is familiar with Nissan/Infiniti. this is a great way to ensure your ride is taken care of properly and save a ton of cash.

for anything i don't want to do myself i take my G to a good independent. the dealer only sees me when it is warranty time. this is never a problem, nor should it be.

I got stealer oil changes until I was out of warranty. Do my own now. Easy enough to do myself, plus I know I do better quality work than a stealer. I use Mobil 1 synthetic (for you hecklers, I know.. German Castrol... blah blah... ).
