Are the 03-04 and 05-06 rear bumpers interchangeable?

I've searched quite a lot but still can't find a definite yes or no.
I know there's a hole for the button on the 05-06 and not on the others and the styling is a bit different, but as far as fitment, can you use a newer rear bumper on an older sedan or vice-versa?
The reason I ask is because my 03 got hit and I found a good deal on a bumper but it's for an 05.
If there are fitment issues how hard are they to overcome?

From what I understand they are a direct swap. But recently someone posted up that it there were modifications that would have to be made to make it fit. I may be doing this in the near future myself so I'd like to get a definitive answer.

I know heyitzalex has a 03-04 bumper on his 06 Sedan, maybe he can chime in.

Good find, I had never seen that thread myself

Tim this should be added to the FAQ thread if not already there.

Alex's car did need some modding and then Jessie had to make the ho;e to make the 05 and beyond work.

^I remember you telling me that before but Alex didn't mention any additional mods (other than for the trunk release button and paint) in his post in the referenced thread.

To the OP, in addition to the bumper, I believe you'll also need the 05-06 rear mud guard (not splash guard) to make it look right. They didn't mention this in the thread you found. The 05-06 mud guard is different from 03-04. I just got my rear end w/Nismo repaired, and I actually went through the same thought as yours. I like the way the 05-06 integrating the lower skirt with the bumper. If you do go that route definitely post some pics when you're done.

the mud guard is a personal preference, it's not needed to swap.

Yeah, I want the mud guards, they look nice. I like the Nismo rear but geez at the $$$$$$$! I will probably go with a Viz Areo Replica on the front, and the 05-06 rear. I'm still undecided on the sides.
For now though I'm just doing the rear (bc it's messed up) and having the ugly gray lower part matched.

I will definitely post back about the fitment and picts. The car is also Ivory Pearl so I'm a bit nervous about the color matching, but the body shop I use is usually really good at color matching.

Have you seen the stillen rear lip? IMO looks better then the Nismo, and is way more affordable

Well, I've ordered the 05 rear bumper. Now I just have to wait until it gets here and gets painted. I may do a test fit before I take it to the body shop, depends on how hard it is to get off.
I'll be sure to keep everyone up to date. Might be good information for Tim's 03-06 Sedan FAQ Sticky.

Cool! Just noticed the 'Resident Nikonian' under your username. What do you shoot? I have a D70s, it's kinda old, but it still gets the job done. I would like to get a D200.

I shoot with a D300. You can check out my work here:

D200 is a nice body, if you can afford a D300 (look for a used one) it totally worth it!
