'SLIP' and 'ABS' lights came on...

I just bought my 03 sedan 6mt (52k miles) about 3 weeks ago. When I start it, there are no lights showing on the dash. But after a few minutes of driving, the traction control light comes on, along with the slip and abs lights (they appear all at the same time). I don't notice any difference when the lights go on, except for the tires spinning if I make them.

Has anyone had these lights come on? What do you think I should do?

You can check in the technical sections for more information but it is either
1) your brake pads need changing
2) you need brake fluid
3) you need to replace the ABS sensor

If you take it by the dealership they can tell you pretty quickly in most cases. Again, check the technical section for more details. This has been discussed quite a bit. I personally dealt with it on my '04 G as well. Shouldn't be a big deal

thanks for the tips guys (and girls)!

I do not have aftermarket rims/tires. everything stock

I will check the brake fluid and pads soon. but why would the traction and slip lights come on? Do you think the brake malfunction somehow triggered the traction control to stop working??!?

On my 2nd gen sedan all of those lights came on and it was because my brake fluid was low. It was still between the max and min level. The lights would come on when under hard acceleration and stay on until I turned the car off and back on again.
I added brake fluid to bring it up to the max level and my lights never came on again. (note I did check my brake pads and they were still okay)

First off, your traction control IS working unless you have a rare major issue. The lights are simply your average idiot lights letting you know something is wrong with something on the car. As for why it is both lights, you would have to ask the engineers at Nissan about that one. LOL I personally only get why the ABS light comes on myself but who knows why they have the other one coming on.

Check the aforementioned items and you should be OK. A quick thing though - is the car also going into "limp mode"? You are saying there is no noticeable change so I'm going to assume not but we all know where assumptions can get you. If it DOES go into limp mode (and you would know) then it could also be the throttle body going bad. This is VERY unlikely given the description you have stated but not impossible with those lights if that makes sense.

good points mentioned in this thread, mine happened this way wand it was the brake fluids being low.

I topped the brake fluid off last week but the lights continue to come on and stay on. However, I'm pretty sure the brake pads need to be replaced because I occasionally hear a high pitched squeak when coming to a stop. Does that mean the metal from the pads are touching the rotors? Should they be replaced asap to avoid damaging the rotors? If they scratch the rotors, will I need to resurface them?

Do you think the reason for the lights on the dash is the worn out brake pads? If so that means there is obviously some kind of sensor for the brake pads/!??! anyone??
