WHat kind of paint to use?

What about translucent paints?? I want to make a sort of "black chrome" rear emblem for my car. I don't really want to spend $200 for the emblem set but at the same time i don't want to paint my chrome emblem and have the paint start to chip off down the road. Has anyone done it this way?

For the most part unless its something I never heard off....You cannot paint over chrome. You much use an etch primer as step one over 80 grit (maybe 150). That is what I did when I color matched my handles and shaved my grill.
The logo is plastic isnt it? Not chrome dipped like the handles or grill. So the steps are more a plastic prep than metal/chrome prep.
Unless you have access to a paint mixing bank your prob not gonna be able to make transparent black on your own.

I read on a Lexus forum where the person used a similar product to make a black chrome emblem. It looked pretty good. I would do this, but mine have been sand blasted and would look like crap.

That came out nice on the Lexus. I wanna give it a try on my rear Mt Fuji.
Anyone know the dealer price for one? I'd rather buy a new one and take my time with prep and paint vs pulling mine off and risk screwing it up and needing to buy a new one anyway.
Unsure if i should do the front one. If i do, it would kinda match the stock 05-06 grill. I just wonder how it would hold up to rock chips and such? Maybe i'll just stick to the rear emblem.

You might try the local hobby store, there are a lot of cool model paints and those guys would know if it will stick. Not the end of the world if you mess up. People are debadging a lot must be a few laying around.
Riverside sells them for under $30 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OEM-I...Q5fAccessories
