Aluminum Pedals - Any performance issues?

Hey, I am about to get some aluminum pedals and had a couple of questions. Are aluminum pedals just a cosmetic thing, or are there any benefits? Also, is the grip of the pedals to the shoe different from the traditional rubber pedal? Better or worse? Do your feet slip?

Thanks

There are no issues at all with them so don't worry. And yes, they are 100% for looks...no HP gains. ;-)

The drilled alum pedals I bought from Grubbs have raised
rubber protruding out of the drill holes. They grip very well.
I am very happy with my purchase.

I had the same question regarding the pedals. Glad to hear that they have rubber protruding.

Is the grip sufficient for winter driving with lots of snow and ice buildup?

Thanks

Snow and ice buildup? I live in Texas, Houston area.
Would not be able to comment about the snow and ice.
What is snow?

The 2005s come with aluminum pedals. The 03 and 04 models should have as well. I put mine in immediately after driving home from the dealership. Other than the fact that you void your powertrain warranty when you install those pedals, they are totally worth it.

Re: Aluminum Pedals - Any performance issues?

Due to the lower drag coeficient of the accelerator pedal I can now go from zero to floor .0038 seconds faster. This resulted in a zero to 60 time improvement of .00027 seconds.

Obviously kidding. But they sure look cool. As far as the "feel". I can't tell a difference.

I have them and last winter was not a problem at all. I'm in NW WI and we do see quite a bit of snow.

The rubber on the brake/clutch helps quite a bit and due to the natural position of the accel pedal, it's pretty hard to slip off there.

sickpig, are you serious about voiding the warranty?
Does not seem very reasonable.

Re: Aluminum Pedals - Any performance issues?

I just recently had warranty work done on my sedan. Infiniti
performed the work on my car with Stillen HF AB, 350z tube,
HKS muffler and drilled alum pedals. No, they don't void the
warranty. As a matter of fact, the dealership installs the
pedals on the G35 all the time.

Re: Aluminum Pedals - Any performance issues?

I had similar questions and concerns about the aluminum pedals so the responses are interesting. I doubted they would void any warranties becuase they are largely cosmetic. However, there are warranty issues with your car if you use it to autocross. I don't know the specifics yet but there is a Car and Driver article in the October 04 issue that deals with this. I will try to post a link to the article once it is availabe.

zimbo,

I bet putting the drilled alum pedals does void the warranty
on the stock pedals. hehe

Re: Aluminum Pedals - Any performance issues?

I installed Autovation pedals. There is no rubber but the clutch, brake and dead pedal have raised rings around the drilled holes which I find dig into the bottoms of my shoes slightly for better than stock grip. The accelerator pedal is smooth, which aids in me being able to move my foot around the surface easily when heel-toe down shifting. The Autovation accelerator pedal is also a little wider than stock, again to aid heel-toe action.

These pedals couple me to the car better, which has enhanced my braking and shifting "performance". I am really pleased with them and am glad I spent a little more money than getting the 350Z style covers.
